Got tired of waiting around for a stud finder deal and noticed the old trusty magnetic one from CH Hanson was at a 1 year price low (based on CCC).

Never tried this, but people seem to swear by it (will try the string method mentioned in the comments).

This thing is all I use. It is constantly getting stuck to me.

I switched to using this stud finder a few years ago. Now it's the only stud finder I use. It doesn't use batteries and finds the studs 100% of the time. Best stud finder I've ever used hands down.

Why not just use a small neodynium magnet? All you're finding with this thing is sheetrock screws

And hopefully those screws are centered in a stud...

This was the only studfinder that worked where I wanted to install a TV.

It doubles as a wickedly strong refrigerator magnet between uses.

I agree with the other posts. Use to use the budget stud finders but they weren't reliable. This thing has never let me down.

i just use some small round neodymium magnets , i like the idea of a level though, i put 2 down a wall or ceiling and i know the joist/stud line for sure, long run like a ceiling i'll shoot a laser between them to save time. those electronic ones i've had aren't worth crap i've repaired more holes from those, never missed with magnets. The electronics one's i've had also don't work at all on a 5/8 firewall drywall. That said my electronic ones are old maybe they're better now? i'll stick to the magnets
