Is this a good guitar for a beginner? plus is finding a case hard for this since it's hollow or is that completely irrelevant?

This might be more than most beginners want to spend, but it is excellent for all skill levels. This will fit in most 335 style cases, but Riff City still has the Gretsch case for this for 60% off. Keep in mind that you need an amp as well.

get something else for a beginner guitar. no need to break the bank. buy something cool looking once you know how to play it.

personally i recommend an acoustic first. cause you can play that anywhere and the strings are usually larger so it helps build strength in your fingers.
