How does this deal compare to the other deals there are out currently for the other MSI laptops?

I owned this model briefly with the 8750H and RTX 2060. Right out of the box started thermal throttling and fan noise had a rattle. Tried ignoring all the review warnings and I got exactly what other folks were having trouble with. Hopefully they fixed it with the 9750H/1660ti, it was a beautiful piece of kit. Speakers were a little weak but otherwise (if they fixed the thermals lol) it was perfect.

My understanding is that the 9750h is leagues better in terms of thermals

Tempting. Been debating on the g65 or legion y740 for a few weeks. Been leaning towards the Costco y740 with a 2060 if nothing else the warranty alone.

Aside from online reviews, anyone have real world opinions either way.

Wonder if throttlestop would fix the problem?

From the forums and videos I dug through, yes, it does, combined with liquid metal on CPU and GPU dies. However, you shouldn't have to "fix" something that's broken new out of the box, and ultimately the reason why I returned it.

I agree with you. That's why I returned my Alienware M15. Ended up picking up the ROG Strix at Walmart for 899 and it's been perfect.

I had the same experience. Bought the 8750H 2060 GS65 from Best Buy a few months ago in the deal for $1399. Thermals were awful, fan sounded like a jet engine (no rattle, though). Returned it within a few days. Got a Y740 instead that was almost silent in comparison. It's a shame though, I liked the portability/screen/building quality better on the GS65.

I also wonder if they fixed the thermals it in the latest revision, but I doubt it. Chassis looks about the same, probably just a minor revision. Unless MSI finally learned how to apply thermal paste.

Laptops only gets cheaper and I really don't see how I would spend $1400 on a 1070 MQ level laptop in 2019. The Asus 1660Ti MQ is at $900.

I got the 2060 version from the last deal as well and have never loved a computer so much. Clean install of win 10 to purge the bloatware eliminated the fan issues. Mine only kicks on when running demanding games. I mostly play project 99 at high refresh, and the fan does not activate at all. Beautiful machine with great battery life.
