Barclays Aviator Credit Card 60K Bonus AA Miles and Companion Certificate offer

+3 Deal Score

Barclays bank [barclaycardus.com] is offering 60K bonus AAdvantange miles after making your first purchase in the first 90 days and paying the $99 annual fee.

The 60K bonus has been offered before as well. But they included two new benefits:

Earn an introductory Companion Certificate

Good for 1 guest at $99 (plus taxes and fees) after making your first purchase and paying the $99 annual fee in the first 90 days.

Get up to $25 back as statement credits on inflight Wi-Fi purchases every anniversary year on American Airlines operated flights.

Each anniversary year, earn a Companion Certificate good for 1 guest at $99 (plus taxes and fees) after spending $20,000 on purchases and your account remains open for 45 days after your anniversary date.

Seems like a decent offer if you fly American frequently.

Thanks for the headsup.
I'll look elsewhere for a verdict on its Value Proposition.

Assuming that you travel, this is great value; especially if you don't spend a lot using your credit card.

This is better than most other offers because you don't need to spend $3k to $4k in 3 months. And $99 companion certificate is great value, if you can use it.

A few things you should consider before jumping on this (or any other similar offer):
1. which airlines do you fly frequently.
2. can you spend $3-4K on your CC within 3 months (google 'manufactured spending')
3. do you have good credit (check your FICO score)
4. do you travel a lot; or would you rather get $$$ as rewards (search for CCs with bonus)
5. remember that Airline miles are constantly devalued (they give it away like peanuts). They are useful if you do travel and your time is flexible.

Good luck.

The real value is the instant 60k bonus with only a purchase. That's a free round trip to Europe south America. I think Asia was about 70k. You could also get a nice one way in business to Europe for 57.5k. the companion pass doesn't hold much value. I churn this card and the Citi version all the time. Last time I got a nice round trips business class to India Smilie 115k miles for $10k in value. Was definitely better than then 800 economy ticket inhad before.
