Thanks for this. Seems like an average sale price though?

The 8tb was $156, 10tb was $213. I'm waiting for something like that again. Grabbed the ds918+. No drives in hand to try it out. Trying to be patient lol.

Really? I believe this drive was still $90 at Amazon and Newegg on Prime Day.

I was in the same boat as you. I bought the box, and it sat there for weeks while i have been moving data off of my other drives that i had planned to use for the unit. I have a couple 4TB Blues, a stray 2TB, and another 3TB that are in my box currently. When the good deals pop up though, i'll snag some REDs to fill the box up properly.

It took about 24 hours to expand the unit by 4TB last night.. So it'll be a slow process. But at least i have my data a little safer at this point.

Bought mine pretty much for plex. Trying to get a solid system in place so I can stop running my laptop as such and have alot more space. I'm new to this and YouTube will be my friend when I finally get drives. I'm still hoping I can set up one drive at a time. Not sure yet.

You can go with unraid and start with a really cheap $40 SSD for your cache drive and a 4tb/8tb single data drive and add a parity drive later. If you don't care about redundancy I still suggest unraid as you can easily add more drives later and Plex etc will simply see your data array no matter how many drives you add. Check out serverbuilds.net and their Nas killer 4.0 etc builds for cheap servers. My entire server was $300 not counting drives and blows away any commercial NAS.

I don't think I can ever bring myself to pay more than $125 and shuck an 8tb external. The white drives are plenty for a home nas. Keep an eye on Newegg flash but they just did it last month so might be a bit again.
