has vesa and audio out from HDMI. No speakers though.
Audio OUT from hdmi? umm no. It accepts audio via HDMI and yes it DOES have speakers.
You're confusing the crappy wording of the listing. "Transmit" in this case doesn't mean it leaves the device. They are just saying audio from an HDMI source is sent to its speakers.

If I hook up a cable box (Comcast) via HDMI switch would it work as a TV?

Yes but you might prob won't have a remote for controlling volume on this monitor if it even has decent speakers

Anyone have thoughts about reliability on these? I've always used Dell monitors but need an inexpensive monitor to have on hand in case one of my others dies, plus, kiddos can use a better one on their computer.

1080p 60hz 22" monitor? What is this, 2005? LOL

Seriously though, $70 is cheap and all, but I wouldn't want to use this thing on the regular. But for kids, backup monitor, small bartop arcade, etc... yeah maybe.

So according to this = https://www.nixeus.com/nxvue22 the audio port is an input jack in case you're using VGA and want sound on the tiny built-in speakers. To me that has much less value than an audio output jack with HDMI sound output.

With crappy built in speakers, yes. Honestly though cheap LCD monitors don't make good TVs because they lack video processing that even cheap basic TVs have. So you don't always get smooth motion and scrolling, etc. You could use it in a pinch or if you just watch news channels all day, but don't expect much. I know this because I have hooked up old monitors (to be fair, not THIS one) as improv TVs and YMMV. When you watch video from a computer, the computer does the processing work for you. A cable box doesn't do any/much of that and you'll get interlacing, screen tearing, all kinds of nonsense.

I am proud to be the first person to rate your comment as unhelpful. The second part was good, but the first part is terrible advice. A 1080 60Hz 22" monitor for $70 is a good deal. Great? Maybe. A similar motor or that was 24" but TN was front page for $70 last week. You can't find a better monitor for $70 I'd bet.

Nope. But they are your eyeballs, do what you want. I suggest aiming higher, there are plenty of name brand options at the $100ish mark, and plenty at the $70ish mark if you're not scared of refurbs.

Personally if I am going to be staring at something for many hours a day, spending a few more dollars to not go blind squinting at a tiny, crappy monitor sounds like a good investment to me. Look under couch cushions, eat ramen or sandwiches for a week. Skip Starbucks for a week. The monitor is the most visible and used component of your PC, don't cheap out. Unless you want to.

edit - hey look
