Groupon Select: 50% off (up to $50) off a single deal on Wednesday 8/7

Groupon is offering 50% off select deals (up to $50 discount) on Wednesday 8/7 for Select members.

I signed up for Groupon Select with a few of the promos that have come out over the last few months and found it to be not all the worth it in the long term since the typical discount (25% off local deals for example) really wasn't much more than the coupons they offered every few weeks. However, if they do more specials like this, the $5 a month charge may indeed be worth it.

(One of my first "original" posts after a decade plus here, be gentle guys...) ;-)

Make sure you do the correct math on whether this is worth it for you, signing up means you are committed to paying for 6 months - so it's $25-30 - and have to remember to cancel at the end.

I had to do the same thing before I purchased because on the surface, the $4.99 a month charge (which you cannot cancel for the first 6 months) didn't seem like a deal.

But I got $20 off instantly on a deal (a promo at the time), a $5 Starbucks card, and now this 50% off deal (on something I was going to buy anyway) so it worked out well for me.

Also nice to not have to wait until a coupon becomes available. Another perk is free shipping on any Groupon Goods item (if you buy stuff from that part of the site) with no minimum.

How does one check if the 50% deal applies? I'm eyeing a $181 groupon so maxing out would be awesome for me.

One deal to check out:

Samsung Galaxy Buds (refurbished) w/ Groupon Select, price comes to $45. Even if you factor in the $25 you have to spend for Groupon Select, that still only a total cost of $70, which I think is pretty slick.
