Marmot is not a budget branded company, not even close. I have one of the Alpinist jackets, which currently retails for $625.00. As well as their other clothing items---none of which could ever be classified as budget branded.

All of this brand comparison stuff depends on which product you buy from a company. I've have North Face shirts and Mtn Hardwear fleece that was crap, and even some inferior Patagonia stuff.

It's an upper tier brand -- used to be even better, but has lost some of their edge. Some of their stuff is better than Patagonia. Some stuff is worse.

I don't own any marmot so no comment there.

It's definitely a step up from Columbia or REI branded gear, and a step down from say Arcteryx or something.

I go outdoors/climbing a lot and I own lots of MH gear, clothes and packs. I've generally been pretty happy with it. They perform well.

The color selection leaves much to be desired.

The full zip hoody has solid colors.
I personally like teal so I got that.

Thanks OP!

How does this brand compare to marmot? Or Patagonia?

They're all the same, IMO.

Have a few items from each of those brands. I think Patagonia is a bit better quality but usually more expensive and not worth the additional cost above Marmot and MH, IMO. I've only gotten Patagonia when on sale. All three brands are great options though!

I got a couple pair of pants and a couple tops. I hiked to Mt. Everest Base Camp in the Spring, and most of the people I saw were wearing either Mountain Hardwear or North Face, so if it's good enough for that, it's good enough for sipping latte at an outdoor cafe, which is what 99% of the people who buy this stuff will use it for, lol.

Still, quality gear and very reasonable at this price. The cash back site that will not be named also gives another 5% back on this site (EEE BATES).

Arcteryx>Patagonia>Mtn Hardwear>>North face>REI>Columbia<>Marmot

in my opinion. I'd say 10yrs ago I would have put Mtn Hardwear next to Patagonia but my recent experience with stuff from both has adjusted my opinion.

Also, some Columbia stuff is better than Marmot some not. Both are budget branded companies. Columbia's heat shield system is pretty cool though.

Eddie Bauer lacks in quality.
Their customer service is even worse. I never received a reply when I mailed them and trying to reach them on the phone is near impossible.

This is correct in my experience. Mtn Hardwear used to be top tier before they were purchased by Columbia. They have come down a bit but are still up there. Just a heads up, many of their jackets are very athletic cut.
