Not just rotational; as I understand it, the foam protection is basically de-coupled from the outer shell, offering superior impact protection.

Safe, legit, non-MIPS helmets can often be had for less than $20; if you can spend $1k for an iPhone, you should be able to scrounge up another ~$50 to better protect the one brain you get in life.

Cheap cycling helmets are a dime a dozen, all meet crash standards.

If you truly care about your head, invest a bit more in a MIPS (or equivalent) helmet.

MIPS is a feature that prevents rotational forces to your head. Giro is a quality brand and has MIPS helmets in their product line.

I second this. MIPS is the only way to go these days.

4.5 out of 5 star average on Amazon with 850+ reviews. MIPS is great, but if you can't afford it right now (at least double this price from quick searching), this seems like a solid choice.

How likely are injuries due to rotational forces?

Got it, just pointing out there's probably a difference between an offbrand non-MIPS helmet and a Giro non-MIPS helmet.

I have this helmet and have worn it for 1000+ miles. It is comfortable and I have no complaints.

Completely legit - My primary helmet is a Giro (MIPS-type).

Thanks OP! Needed a new bike helmet. I got a Kids Giro too but unfortunately that was $10 more even on sale.
