Compared to what? It's easily cost effective compared to buying herbs and the like in stores. No doubt you can build your own solution cheaper, but:

1. You have to factor in the value of your time.

2. Not everybody has the knowledge or skill to build such a thing.

3. This is likely to look better on a kitchen counter than most homemade solutions.

I don't think it is. I believe this is suited more for people like me who don't have a green thumb, but still would love to have a fresh plant by my desk.

Does anyone know if they make an adapter that allows you to convert one of their older, CFL-based units to an LED-based one? We have 2 of those, one a full-size and the other a mini. Would be a shame to have to get entire new ones just for the LEDs.

Hard to believe that this is a cost effective way to grow. 🤔

I bought it for the experience, kids like to see the plants grow without dealing with soil, and soil pests.

Probably, but it's not huge, so you're talking about 1-2 plants so at best you're looking at like 10 berries per month (assuming they will grow year round which is not guaranteed).

What happens if one of the pods don't grow? Does the company provide replacements?

From what I've read (I just bought this deal last week) Aerogarden will replace any pods you buy directly from them but not from other sources. The cost on their store was fairly competitive with Amazon etc. so I bought a custom seed pack from them. Shipping kind of sucks if you don't spend over $50 (I think it was $5) but I did get like 7% cash back.
