My wife really wanted the Burgundy Red version of the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2. Any color besides platinum (Black, Burgundy Red, Cobalt Blue) is only available in the more expensive 256GB SSD version and higher configurations which begin at MSRP $1299.
Currently onsale at the microsoft.com, amazon.com, and bestbuy.com websites and their B&M stores for $999 + tax ($300 off)
However the Microsoft B&M stores have an additional $100 GC for students or anyone with a .EDU email address. So effectively $899 + tax. I paid $1073.93 today at my local Microsoft B&M and a physical $100 GC.
Also, the cheaper 128GB SSD version which comes only in plain Platinum color (MSRP $999) is also on sale + $100 GC for students for $799 + tax + free shipping. So effectively $699 + tax.
I personally have had very good technical support at the B&M Microsoft store and prefer that over Best Buy. They will bend over backwards if you purchased the laptop at the store.
I cross shopped this with the Dell XPS 13 and LG Gram 13.
I read about some quality control issues with the most recent XPS 13 so decided against that. I had a few issues with older XPS 13s.
I really wanted the LG Gram 13 but couldn't find a B&M store to play with it in person.
