I was researching vehicle trackers and the price of this one dropped from $100 to $60 in the last 12 hrs. This is the lowest price ever per ccc. Wirecutter's [thewirecutter.com] top pick and very cool because there is no monthly subscription for basic tracking.

Automatic Connected Car Assistant New AUT-450C, LTE OBD II Adapter and App, Trip Tracking, Severe Crash Alert, Engine Diagnostics, Realtime Car Tracking, Roadside Assistance and Alexa Skill [amazon.com]

Wow, is not 3G going to shut down at the end of 2019 or sometime soon making older devices obsolete? Noticed this is the LTE version.

Doesn't this new model also come with a monthly subscription?

what are you talking about? "no monthly subscription for basic tracking."

Premium Service first 6 months free. No contract, $5 per month after 6 month free trial. If you read the description, real time tracking is a premium feature.

Basic tracking looks pretty limited. I remember when the Automatic came with all these features included with purchase and there was zero subscription. I can see how that wasn't a sustainable business model. Just wish I had bought one of those versions at the time.

I have the older version of this with 3G and have been using it for 2+ years. I knew the days of no subscription would come to an end. The cellular connectivity is great compared to the ones that locally connect to Bluetooth, etc.

The "Pro" (Gold) model was advertised with 5 years of 3G connectivity and there are a number of posts if that is actually going to be honored.

I love the device. Paid $99 from Best Buy a few years back and it just has worked. However, the new monthly costs are for the exact same things that previously were standard (integration with apps, real time tracking, etc).

Here is a post from the Automatic forms that explains a bit about this new adapter.
