After twenty-one Marvel films over the past eleven years, Avengers: Endgame is the twenty-second movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It brings together all the (still-living) Marvel heroes we've seen on the movie screen since Iron Man premiered in 2008. Grieving after the losses suffered in Avengers: Infinity War, the world is forever changed and our heroes are suffering as a result. But when all appears lost, they learn of something that might give them a chance to make things right and come up with a highly risky plan. Do they even have a chance of succeeding?

This engaging plot brings eleven years of inter-connected cinematic stories to a close in an effective and fantastic manner. Not only does it tell an amazing and impactful story, but it also pays close attention to its characters and puts them through their paces as they never have been before. After the ending of "Avengers: Infinity War", fans were very eager to see how this movie might resolve it. They were paid off in spades, as this movie did that as well as paid tribute to and connected dots to many of the Marvel movies that came before it.

With many moving plotlines, a focused core group of characters, some character deaths that truly resonate with a heavy emotional impact, hysterical one-liners, a ton of surprises and a stupendously epic ending that will make your jaw drop, this movie had a lot of expectations and thankfully, it met that and more.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who also directed "Avengers: Infinity War", it opened in theaters on April 26, 2019, and had the biggest opening weekend ever, earning over 857 million dollars domestically and over one billion, nine hundred thirty million dollars internationally. In total, it earned over 2.7 billion dollars, making it the highest-grossing movie of 2019 and the highest-grossing movie in history. This dethrones the previous record holder, "Avatar" which was released in 2009, from the top spot. Critics gave it a 94% rating on RottenTomatoes.com, while audiences gave it a 91% score.

Phase Three of the Marvel movie franchise actually ends not with this movie, but with "Spider-Man: Far From Home, which premiered in theaters on July 2, 2019. This movie picks up from the end of "Avengers: Endgame" and deals with some of the aftermath of that movie. Phase Four of the Marvel movie franchise continues onwards with Black Widow on May 1st, 2020, The Eternals on November 6th, 2020 and a bunch of new TV series on Disney Plus, a Netflix-like streaming platform launching on Nov. 12st, 2019.

This movie drops on DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K Ultra HD on Tuesday, August 13th. There are two retailer exclusives and two digital exclusives for this movie as well, so let's find out the details.

There are three editions:

2.) The Blu-ray + Digital Code "Multi-Screen edition" (1 Disc total)
3.) The 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital Code "Cinematic Universe Edition" (2 Discs total)

A note about the digital code, it will be a code you can redeem on the Movies Anywhere website, which you can then link with your different digital movie accounts on Amazon Video, iTunes, Google Play, FandangoNow, Microsoft Movies & TV and Vudu. When you link your accounts from those digital retailers, the films from your Movies Anywhere library are imported into all of those other digital movie sites. So, no matter which digital movie platform you use, you should be able to view the movie on the device of your choice.

Best Prices:

I did a price comparison on both the internet and this week's circulars with Amazon.com, Best Buy, BestBuy.com, BarnesandNoble.com, Costco.com (no listings for some reason), DeepDiscount.com, Frys.com, FYE, FYE.com, Kmart.com/Sears.com, Overstock.com, Target, Target.com and Walmart.com. Unless otherwise noted or known by me, the prices are the same in-store and online at their respective websites. I noted shipping in the price rankings because of the competition between stores, but I will only be comparing base prices of the movie. Shipping costs will not factor into the price rankings as a result.

Please note that with these price rankings, these prices are as current as I am aware of. Walmart's in-store prices don't always match its website prices, for example. As a result, these prices are as accurate as I can verify from the internet and flyers from the newspaper, I don't put prices in the rankings that I cannot verify.

I fully expect there to be further price changes on Tuesday when the movie is released to stores. This is especially true with Amazon's prices, which are NOT available online yet. I'll be updating this thread again on Tuesday and double-checking all the prices.

On a side note, this is why Amazon's prices aren't online yet and why they don't do pre-orders for a Disney owned movie: https://consumerist.com/2014/08/1...-blu-rays/

For example, in the past, Kmart.com/Sears.com will presumably sell all versions of a movie, but there are no listings for it online but only in Kmart's circular. So I can only rank the price at the store and not the price on the website. I also know from experience that FYE's B&M store prices are the same as those on their website, so I made one listing for both. In other words, these stores reserve the right to change their prices and I might not know about it. Smilie That's where the SD community can help each other out and if new or different prices are verified, I will edit my post accordingly.

When I checked online, I found no listings for this movie on Costco.com, Kmart (no sales circular), Overstock.com, Sears (no sales circular) or Walmart (no sales circular).

A note about Walmart's prices, they have proven to be notoriously regional in the past and they rarely have a weekly circular available online. When it is available online, the circular prices in it are national or mostly national. Hopefully, the prices online will be national, with little price variation. Wink

I'm making a slight adjustment to my price rankings, as I will now only include the top five prices in this thread. Basically, if a retailer's price stinks, it doesn't get to be a part of this compilation list. Big Grin I will still do a full price comparison to all the stores I listed above, but only the best prices will be included here. So if you don't see a particular store on the list, it means their price wasn't good enough to be included. It also means that if their price isn't included here, you should go to a retailer whose price WAS included on this list and try to get the other retailer to price match it, if possible.

Here are the conclusions:

Don't forget that you can price match any edition of this DVD or Blu-Ray to the store of your choice, if they have a price matching policy. There might also be some store-specific coupons or online coupon codes floating around that could help bring some of these prices down further. Given the price competition for this movie, there are some great price-matching opportunities, especially due to the aggressive price matching policies stores like Best Buy and Target continue to utilize.

Digital Exclusive - redeem the Digital Code from the Blu-Ray or the 4K editions on the Movies Anywhere website, which you can then link with your different digital movie accounts on Amazon Video, iTunes, Google Play, FandangoNow, Microsoft Movies & TV and Vudu.

When you link your accounts from those digital retailers, the films from your Movies Anywhere library are imported into all of those other digital movie sites. So, no matter which digital movie platform you use, you should be able to view the movie on the device of your choice. When you do, you get access to this special feature which is one minute and 30 seconds long:

• Steve and Peggy: One Last Dance – Explore Captain America and Peggy Carter's bond, forged in moments from previous films that lead to a momentous choice in "Avengers: Endgame."

iTunes Digital Exclusive – redeem the Digital Code from the Blu-Ray or the 4K editions in Movies Anywhere and make sure you link your iTunes account to it in order to view this bonus feature on iTunes – enabled devices (which includes many Smart TV's now) so you can watch:

• "Avengers Script Security and the Secret Scenes of Infinity War and Endgame" – This feature is over six minutes long and it describes how they preserved certain secrets from "Infinity War" and "Endgame" from leaking, including fake scene rewrites in the script that were intentionally bad to confuse potential leakers. These fake scenes are animated in this bonus feature.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/movie...1459467957

You can certainly purchase this movie digitally on the online retailer of your choice. However, when you buy the Blu-Ray or the 4K editions of this movie, it comes with a digital code, so you don't have to do so unless that is your preference. One digital code redeemed on the Movies Anywhere website and connected to your iTunes account gives you access to all these digital exclusives without having to spend extra money to get them. nod

__________________________________________________________________________

I included as much pertinent information on this new release that I could find so everyone can make a more educated decision on whether to purchase this movie or not, as well as which edition they prefer.

For those of you who read these threads start to finish, there is plenty of detail for everyone. I've noticed that a lot of the questions people put in these threads could be answered if they read the OP carefully. I would heartily encourage you to do so, as it might answer the question(s) you have before you even have to ask. Wink

And that is the end of this compilation, my first New Release Thread for the year 2019. Only two retailer exclusives for physical media and two for digital media this time around, thankfully. It should make it easier to decide what edition and which exclusive you might want.

Remember, when going up against Thanos, learn the hard lessons from "Infinity War" and aim for the head this time.

Check eBay for the 4k release. I'm sure it'll be around $20 within a couple weeks. I picked up Infinity War for $16 a couple months after release.
