IMO better than the refurbish deal if you need a short throw (0.5 ratio), fast response times of 16ms, 1080p projector

Hmm was wanting to purchase then read all the reviews about the light burning out too quickly also this reviewer "The claimed "3000 lumens" is just pure white light, which is great for use as a business projector or as a flash light I guess, but horrible for theater and gaming as it produces a washed out picture as I experienced."

How short of a throw is a "short throw?" I don't understand the term I guess.

Throw is the distance between the projector and the wall. Short Throw means that the projector is designed to sit much closer to the wall while still providing a large image.

The throw ratio is 0.49 which basically means for every foot away the projector is from the screen the image will be 2 feet larger. For example, as said in the product description, a 100 inch image can be created by placing the projector less than 4 feet away.

I just bought this on the refurb deal for 515 no tax freeshipping with 3d party warranty. The reviews seem really good but so I'm surprised/worried by the negativity here. I was deciding between this or a cheap 75" TV for my gaming/theater room that is very dark. Am I missing something?

Also wondering if I should return the refurb but this would have tax so its a decent amount more expensive. Thoughts?

I've had this projector for a couple years and it's great for this price point. The short throw means you'll get less light loss thrown on the screen because of the shorter distance it has to travel. Of course, you'll still want to dim the room during the day for good viewing.

I did the same for my HD29Darbee. I bought it refurbed with a one year warranty and used the savings for an extended 4 years on top of that. Guess what, I figured out why it needed to be refurbished and it was because one of the two HDMI ports works. I doubt that it was "refurbished" at all since it is such an obvious problem. Naturally, it is covered under the warranty, but I am too lazy and cheap to send it in since the other port works fine. You'll spend close to your "savings" just to ship that sucker if something goes wrong. I'd rather have paid a little more for a new projector than dealing with this "refurbished" crap.

Also, for a home theater, I am sure this will do fine. Depending on what and how you game, you'd be better off with a gaming monitor than a projector or ANY affordable TV. I am sure there must be a 75 inch 2k oled 145hz with 2 milisecond response rate TV somewhere out there, but "affordable" probably wouldn't be a proper adjective for it.

I've had this projector for about a year now, it's been amazing! I don't know why there's so much negativity here but it's super sharp and I have not had to change the bulb yet and I use it as my main gaming and TV/movie viewing device. I definitely recommend it if you don't care about it not being 4K
