Is this better laptop than lenovo y540 same specs?
Y540 has various configurations. Can you point the exact model you're referring?

Is this laptop better than the Asus shown here: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus...Id=6335589

I picked up the Asus about 11 days ago for my son for college. He does some gaming (nothing overly crazy though). The prices are the same. The Asus has a better processor (i7 vs. i5) but the Dell appears to have a better video card.

If the Dell is a better overall laptop I'll take the Asus back. I have until Tuesday to do it. Can a few of the experts here share your opinion/insight? Thanks!!!

This one is just better for gaming. Other one is a nicer setup with the i7 and Asus. 1660ti is a lot better tho https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Com...4037vs4039

If you are willing to pay that extra 80 bucks, get that Y540. What I have seen from various reviews that Y540 has very efficient cooling which prevents the Thermal throttling by a good margin. Configuration is more or less same and yes, I would suggest that if you are okay with the extra 80 bucks.

That Asus Laptop uses Ryzen 7 3750H CPU which has a TDP of 35 Watt vs the 45W TDP of 9300H in this Laptop and that processor consumes a lot lesser battery. Now coupled with a 70 WHr battery + lower power consumption from the CPU, that Asus laptop provides better battery life.
On the other had, i5-9300H, performance wise, is better than 3750H in every aspects and it does not bottleneck the powerful GTX 1660 Ti Graphics card. The Asus one has a gaming performance which is just slightly over older GTX 1060 whereas when GTX 1660 Ti is paired with i5-9300H, it goes over GTX 1070 Max-Q Graphics card.

With the linked you provided, your Lenovo is 17" with 144 monitor. 256ssd w/1 tb harddrive. With the additional $80 cost, Both has the same CPU and GPU and 8gb of ram.
Yes, its is better than the Dell. However, you have to keep in mind that you will be carrying a 17" laptop which is heavier then this 15".

At $879, combine that with some cash back rebate sites at 8%, you can get the lenovo at around ~$810 after the cash back which is a great price.

Bought in a previous deal. Not bad for the price! Gets a bit hot and the fans are loud when gaming, silent otherwise. Great performance.

Definitely appreciate the info sir. So for a new college student who does do some gaming, would I be better off with the Asus or Dell?

Anyone else have an opinion? Thanks in advance.

That link does not have 144 hz display with $880 price. That is another $50 update on top of the price.
