Any comments on whether this is a good deal? I've read some reviews and at $802 they thought it was a decent laptop for the price. Only down side was that it was plastic and that it didn't have thunderbolt.

I have checked the notebook check.net and OwnordisOwn review and both of them have praised the laptop. At this price it even at $900 price, all gaming laptops are mostly plastic. But this one has very solid build quality, completely redesigned cooling compared to the 2018 model and no flex on keyboard or in the lid. Regarding Thunderbolt 3, apart from previous Gen G5 and G7, none of the budget laptops have Thunderbolt 3 port below $1000 price. This is a very budget offering and at this price, it is a very solid deal.

YMMV as the 2 or 3 GB GTX 1050 are Nvidia's recycling of defective full versioned form. They are not the same quality and are misbranded.https://www.techspot.com/review/1675-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-3gb/

A bulky 17 inch gaming desktop replacement without a decent graphics card. Don't buy.

The 1050Ti is a good trade off, IMO, for having a laptop that doesn't weigh 10lbs due to heatsinks and good 1080p gaming performance. The 1050 is a bit too underpowered to play most new AAA tiles without some big compromises in visuals.

Not even a 1050ti and not even 4gb vram. Not a gaming machine, BUT decent for all-around media and light gaming.

1060 or bust.

You have to consider the price. At this price, you mostly get the GTX 1050 and this 3GB variant is faster than both 4GB and 2GB version of GTX 1050. I explained the reason in my original post.

The 3GB version is the stripped down version of 1050 To, not 1050. It uses the GTX 1050 Ti GPU with a cut down 64 bit memory bus.

I need a video editing machine and this is right in my price range.

Does anyone know if this would be good for Adobe Premiere?
