What's with the 8 GB RAM on all these gaming laptops. Should have been a 16 GB 2666 MHz single stick giving the user the option to add another 16GB and make it dual channel.

Only 8GB RAM and a 5400rpm HD? Hard pass at this price point.

I feel like these manufacturers must have a ton of these old mechanical drives laying around. 128 gb ssd is just not enough in combination with a slow mechanical hdd. Maybe 512 gb would make it more acceptable. As this machine sits, you're going to need at minimum $40 in more ram and probably another $100 or so for a good drive replacement. Then you have an extra hard drive sitting in your desk for the next ten years.

Dim screen too. I sent a G5 back because of that.

Seems way overpriced considering other i7/1660ti laptops have been at the $800 price point.

The G7 is Dell's top none alien ware chassis, a competitor to the Lenovo Y740

It's a G7 not a G3, there is more to a laptop.. thermals, chassis design, tiered products, Thunderbolt, etc.. the Y740 vs the Y540 for example

Did you factor in the $300 back in Rakuten points?

I got a Dell G5 15" 144hz i7 9thGen 1660ti 8gbRAM 256 NVME SSD 1TB HDD for $1200 total after a coupon code taking off $60 and then I got back $280 in Rakuten points 2 days later.

Something to be aware of that is not listed openly, the NVME drive is super slow specifically if its the Toshiba NVME SSD. I ended upgrading the RAM to 32GB and the NVME to a faster one with the full GT4 lanes speeds as opposed to the GT2 lanes on the cheap Toshiba drive....

BIOS updates seemed to have somewhat fixed the thermal throttling issues, no more frame drops for me, but for a while I had to turn off turboboost and have the CPU at a set speed. I will say that you CANNOT game on just battery power. You must be connected to AC power to be able to get more than 30fps on any game. CPU locks to 1.67ghz on battery. Google it.

What's wrong with it? I was tempted to get this.
