I hate that so many of the 4k PJs don't allow 3d in 1080p.

Neither the UHD50 or UHD60 do 3d.

The UHD 50 supports 3D after a firmware update, though I can't recommend buying that particular projector because they've had QC problems. I guess the extra warranty is helpful in that regard.

I was actually looking at that one. I want something under $1000. Which would you best recommend in that price range? I don't need 3D either

That's the thing, there aren't many other options under $1000. The best budget 4k pj (imo) is the BenQ HT3550, but no way you're getting that under MSRP. If you get a good one, the UHD50 does have a good picture, and that extra warranty helps. But it is a bit of a crapshoot.

Relevant comparison for folks in the market:

Amazing how cheap both projectors are on SD right now.

Gotcha. I was also looking at the Epson 2150, optima hd27hdr, and HD143x as non 4K options. Any suggestions on those? Or best to just save and purchase the ht3550 down the line

I really only know about the 4k options. Depending on how much 4k content you have, I would say wait and get the HT3550. I actually just remembered there was a deal on refurbs like a month or 2 ago, just wait for the next batch.

Wait, nevermind, that's the UHD65 that does interpolation. The 60 does not

If you are looking for a non 4k option check out the BenQ HT 2050. I got mine for around $400 last November and really enjoy it. I tried a couple of the 4k projectors and the HD143x before deciding to keep the HT2050. It isn't quite as loud as the 143x and it doens't have the black border around it. It's about time for the BenQ site to do their fall sale so you might catch it at a really good price soon as well.
