This sale pairs nicely with the recent Criterion blu-ray announcement of Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films. That set has the first 15 Godzilla films from Gojira in 1954 to Terror of Mechagodzilla in 1975. This VUDU sale has every movie from the Heisei and Millennium eras except for The Return of Godzilla, Godzilla vs Biollante, and Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack.

So you could buy 10 movies from this VUDU sale + the Godzilla Criterion set and have 25 of the first 28 Godzilla movies. All that's left are the three I mentioned above, Godzilla (1998), Godzilla (2014), Shin Godzilla, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

(Note: Anyone who wants to go this route can skip Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1974) from VUDU as it's already in the Criterion set)

Godzilla 1998 is the opposite of "classic".

Vudu should be the one paying me $4.99 to watch that garbage.

I liked the one from 1998. Wouldn't call it a classic though, but was fun watching all the Godzillas running around. Got to watch it over in Germany on a U.S. Army post. Wasn't too much to do there, so was always nice to be able to catch a flick.

I think much of the hate for the 1998 one is that the design of Godzilla did not look or behave like the traditional Gojira/Godzilla--it was more like a giant raptor/lizard running around the city. I remember seeing the movie when I was in middle school. It was epic at the time. However, looking back at the movie after getting into the original Godzilla movies, I can see why people don't like it.

The soundtrack was good, that was about it.

"Classic". It's not classic unless that boy in those shorts is in it.

The Japanese still use that version of the character, but call him "Zilla," because they claim he's not worthy of the "God" part.

It's a classic to me and my sentimental nerve. "Gogera.. Gogera..."

F!&*$K Vudu.

They were one of the earliest data breaches way back in 2010 or so that STILL gives me credit monitoring.

Dont trust them with your info, EVER!

Oh I know why people don't like it, but if you put the typical Godzilla format aside and just enjoy the movie for what it is, it's entertaining. There have been worse American made Godzilla movies.
