Is this printer worth it for people who don't print much? A lot of mixed reviews here
That's the best situation to be in!
Enjoy the super cheap color laser printer, Never worry about it drying out like inkjet, & Don't have to replace the cartridges often

Like couple of previous posters said, there are cheap toner options on Ebay if you are a bit handy - https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-time-4...1790060879
Remember that drums wear out. Didn't check to see if this uses a separate drum. But, you'd really only be able to refill a cartridge twice, before you had to buy an new cartridge (if drum built in).

After the 3rd use, the printing becomes much dimmer, with 8k-10k pages being the typical life of a consumer drums. The built in drums [in cartridge] %get fainter printing by the time you start a 3rd use, and at the end of the 4th use, it'll be waaay faint.

If drum is separate, you'd usually get at least 10k pages before it started to fade.

Great printer, however I had to get 3 in order to get a working one. I believe I used shoprunner and the returns were free but this was a big hassle. Anyone else have a similar issue?

No, that's the whole point. They make nothing on the printer so that they can make $$$ on the toner.

So you, not being a helpless idiot, throw out the printer when the cartridges run out.

Only an idiot thinks that they're getting anywhere near a full cartridge with this unit

You post goes against all previous comments: Most like the printer AND complain about the high ink price.

Are you just trolling or is it a legit concern?
Why would you accuse someone of trolling because they had a different opinion?

My God, this place is full of weirdos lately

Asked if it was a legitimate concern as he/she was counter on two separate points. They responded in a helpful manner.

Asking for clarification is weird, I guess.

If the brother uses TN660 Cartridges, DO NOT GET RID OF IT!.

When buying a color laser especially, checking toner cost should be the #1 factor. Price of machine 2nd, since you'll generally spend many times the printer cost for the 4 cartridges.

So, compare this to your current one in costs, and if your old one uses generic cartridges too (make sure chips included in prices) & if either has a separate drum, what that cost is. If refilling powder & chips yourself, remember that you'll get max 3 times out of it (2 refills), before the drum dies slowly & print becomes very faint

TN660 CARTRIDGES:
Those cartridges are always $8/2 pack on slickdeals. Hell, I even paid $5.80/2 pack at one point.
1) The cartridges last longer
2) Its SOOOO CHEAP to print, vs this color laser, or practically any laser printer.

MY COLOR LASER TONER PRICE SHOCK:
>4 years ago, when I ditched my $100 SD all in 1 color laser right after finishing the black cartridge, I was horrified it was $80 for a 500pg cartridge (this one lasts 2300pgs).

CHEAPEST B&W LASER TONER SEARCH:
I searched threads and found the TN660 was dirt cheap at $13/2 pack. I checked every black & white laser printer for compatibility, till I found my $65 wireless brother fax all in one (tons of models & brands).

TN660 B&W CHEAPNESS @$4/CARTRIDGE:
I love my brother & that it costs nothing to print. $0.005-$0.008 per paper, and $0.0013 for toner. Usally paper is the cheaper item, w/ toner $0.027/pg

ALWAYS KEEP OLD B&W LASER + COLOR
Keep the old B&W if it uses the TN660. ONLY using this color laser for color, B&W on the brother.
Yes, no intent to get rid of the Brother! I use it for B&W printing.

My .02...bought this over a year ago. The first one started freezing up on the display screen so I attempted to contact support. Had to create an account on their site. They are geared towards business support and not home use so it took a bit to get someone to come out and look at it (it's covered under warranty, so no worries...just be prepared to go through the process). The technician messed it up even more, so they just gave me a new one.
The printer itself isn't too bad. We have used it quite a bit and are almost through the black toner. Duplex printing is good and scanning/copying seems pretty fast for a home printer. Recently, it has been getting "paper jam" notices even though nothing is seen when opening it up. Just opening and closing the doors seems to reset it. I haven't looked at it closely yet to see what the issue is. Has been sporadic. Overall we like it.

Not to mention, most users would likely run out of black first. So they're still better off buying the cartridge for around $70.

Dammit. Missed this deal. I have the 250DN and I found that the toner refills weren't working effectively as well.
I'm going to upgrade and get the scanner as well, so this was a good deal.
I did find some replacement (non Ricoh branded) cartridges that worked well.

Oh, and before you guys say how easy it is, I'll agree, replacing the toner WAS easy as was the chip... however, it's a royal mess and the seal wasn't the same so there was some leakage. I've worked on printers in the past for many years, and toner is always the biggest moneymaker.....
