B&H Photo has the 27" iMac with Retina 5K Display for $1399. It comes with 8 GB of RAM but users are allowed to upgrade to 64 gigs (very easy process - it has total 4 slots with 2 sitting empty).
This is model MNEA2LL/A. This is NOT Model MNE92LL/A (which is 3.4 GHz and currently available for $20 less at $1379)
  • 3.5 GHz Intel Core i5 Quad-Core (7th-gen Kaby Lake 3.5 GHz Intel Core i5 Quad-Core processor that can be overclocked up to 4.1 GHz)
  • 8GB of DDR4 RAM | 1TB Fusion Drive
  • Memory Slots 4 (2 Available)
  • 27" 5120 x 2880 IPS Retina 5K Display
  • AMD Radeon Pro 575 Graphics Card (4GB)

RAM is easy to upgrade - no tools required. The internal hard drive is hard to upgrade, but doable. Check ifixit com for instructions and youtube for videos.

OWC is recommended by folks for RAM upgrades.

B&H Photo also has the alternative 27" iMac Model MNE92LL/A (which is 3.4 GHz and currently available for $20 less at $1379)

I am on the fence looking around for iMacs and found this deal. Can someone suggest if paying with Costco Citi Credit Card gets me 2 additional years of warranty?

I mean the display itself costs 1299. Can this be used as a display?

Yes it still gives 2 years extended warranty.

My beef with the <$1500 27" iMacs is the 1TB Fusion drive. Apple reduced the SSD portion from 128GB to just 24GB starting with the 2015 models and they are still putting them in the 2019 models.

was researching this a while back...iirc only older imacs could be used as a target display unfortunately.

you can still do something like "screen mirroring" over network..but, obviously, won't be as good quality as being able to connect direct via thunderbolt/dp/hdmi..

same ... one solution i've read for this is connect an external ssd to use as your OS/app drive and then just use the internal 1tb for storage. (agree...for the price...shouldn't be necessary)

THIS!!! Don't buy a gimped iMac. It is shameful Apple still sells these HD models. SSD models write ~1400, read ~2400
Just stalk these refurb links for a 2017 ($1529.00) or 2019($1609.00) refurb with 256GB SSD. They come with the same 1yr apple warranty.

Typed this on the 2019 refurb.
