This is a good deal but the product it appears to contain boric acid. Not knowing enough about what volume of water would be necessary to neutralize the effect of boric acid there may be a concern there.

We just dump in some citric acid. You can get a bag decently cheap on Amazon. It also works great in the washing machine.

How much citric acid do you put in to your dishwasher and washing machine? I used some in a steamer and nothing but black stuff came out.

Yep, we do that too. Two tablespoons along with a Cascade tablet and... the dishwasher smells great again!

1/4 cup or so. Maybe a bit more in the washer if I notice that musty smell. We run them empty to make sure we don't damage any dishes.

Run a cycle with citric acid loaded or not with dishes?

With no dishes for the dishwasher and no clothes in the washing machine. Set both to a heavy duty or the self-clean cycle if available.

What I read online was that citric acid may be safe if your dishes have no patterns or colors but I didn't want to risk it.

I try to preemptively do the washing machine at least once a month. Once you notice the machine smelling, your clothes may have had an odor for a while.

Any citric acid available in powder form by the pound will do. I do the same, and also use it to descale coffee machines. Cheap and effective. Just make sure it's in bulk, powdered form.

Isn't Vinegar recommend to clean Dishwasher and Washing Machine? I have been doing it for the past two years and seems to be working OK.
