$69.99 - $10 Instant Rebate = $59.99 with free shipping (for a limited time)

Not the cheapest it has been, but still a good deal on the cheapest video card available that does hardware 4k decoding.

Wondering if the version with the fan is a better buy at the same price?

Depends on what you want it to do. For HTPC's, fanless is the way to go because you want to keep noise down even if it means losing a little performance.

But then you have a fan running, so it depends on your use. I bought one of the fanless card a few months back so I could use my 4k monitor with an older computer. I wasn't looking for heavy gaming, I just wanted something quiet.

This card will do 4k @ 60hz, however my older monitor has an older HDMI port so it only runs at 30hz. If this card had display port, my monitor would do 60hz. There are plenty of older 4k monitors like this, so check if that is what you are looking for. Since I'm not gaming on it, its not a deal-breaker, but not ideal either.

I've used a bunch of these in builds, aside from the heatsink, the evga 1030 low profile cards are identical.

If your monitor doesn't support 60hz over HDMI get a HDMI to Displayport cable or adapter for it, with a passive adapter or cable rated for 4k 60hz you, your PC and your monitor won't know it's on an adapter.

Even for HTPC, other background noise is way higher and more than the noise coming from the fan on a video card. Once you start watching a show or a movie, you don't even hear the computer. Therefore get that video card with a fan. It's also a true single slot video card.

I have gone from a displayport output to an hdmi monitor before, but I'm under the impression the hdmi output to a displayport monitor doesn't work without an expensive adapter. https://superuser.com/questions/1...root-cause

One version of the 1030 video card that has a Display port and a HDMI port. I'm waiting it to be around $60. The DP will go to my 32" monitor. The HDMI port is reserved for a 55" 4K TV.

It would appear you are right, I haven't had the need to do it that way. The cable I bought for my side monitors DP to HDMI. They mentioned being backwards compatable. It seems they were referring to older generations of the ports themselves...
