Any thoughts on this? I've been wanting to invest in a traeger but I'm not sure which model go with. It looks like this might be a smaller unit would it handle a barbecue for 10 to 15 people?

Looks like amazon says it's 380 sq in cooking area while HD says 318? Anyone know which is right? Hoping it's 380!

honest question: as a pit boss owner; i fail to see why you'd pay a much higher price for half the grilling area compared to the pitboss 700. I have one and it is wonderful. is traeger the yeti of pellet grills?

At least one review on Amazon says it adds pellets based on a time estimate for the temperature you set, rather than measuring and adjusting based on temperature. From what I can tell, the Traeger uses temperature measurements for this, and includes a few other extra features like built-in meat thermometers.

I don't have either, but I've been considering my options for smoking meat. Good temperature control is a feature I'd consider crucial. I don't mind keeping an eye on it, but I don't want to have to constantly babysit it. If I'm going to babysit it, I can just smoke on my Weber kettle.

Traeger was awesome originally, once they got bigger they started using thinner steel and cheaper outsourced materials. I bought a brand new one in 2014, and it blew up a few months later due to flameouts. Bought a Green Mountain Grill after that and haven't had a single problem since.

Pretty much yes. I believe the main guy behind Traeger left on bad terms and started up his own company, Z grills.

Get a larger one. My friend has this one and that's his primary regret. Better to have the extra space and not always need it, then not have it and need it.

Traeger is over priced junk. Buy one of the cheaper cheap pellet grills or get a rec tec.

Just an fyi for those looking for a pellet grill... Costco has been discounting the Louisiana pellet grills, I just picked one up for $399. Personally I'd take that one over this one as this one is too small IMO. That being said, it's of course a YMMV situation, and different Costco locations price them differently. You can ask someone at Costco to look up the locations and look at the different prices - and they'll often match a lower one right there.

This. If you're going to spend $500 go ahead and get the Rec Tec Trailblazer. Holds temps within 1-2 degrees consistently. Top of the line customer service.
