It's worth it if you need an i7. You probably don't. The better SDD and graphics card are your value.

UserBenchmark ranks the 940MX as a horrible dGPU, even below the radeon vega 8. is there any truth to that or does it not tell the whole story? no sense in wasting battery life on a dGPU if it performs so poorly, right?

I've got an order in for last weeks deal of the exact same version of this laptop, but with the i5 CPU, the 250GB SSD and fhe MX250 graphics card, all for $499, but it hasn't been shipped out yet. Does anyone think this i7 version with the old 940MX video card and 128GB / 1TB of storage is worth cancelling for that i7 even though it'll cost me an extra $100.

I'd think so, $100 for i7 is worth as is, up to you and what you use your computer for.

Mx250 graphics card is much newer and better than this laptop. See the stats at GPUboss.com [gpuboss.com], its the MX150 vs 940MX but it should give you a good idea.

Depending on what your needs are this deal is better for productivity and your deal is better for games and gpu intensive tasks

Edit: This laptop was released late 2017, hence the 940mx graphics card. For a 7000 series laptop it was only ok. The biggest con for me is the low battery life, it lasts less than 5hrs with wifi off and screen at lowest setting. I'm going to pass on this. Review [notebookcheck.net]

I will stick with my $550 Lenovo 730s from BestBuy for now. Although it only has i5, it still has more memory, touch screen and 256GB SSD without useless 1GB HDD that only adds weight.
