To earn 5% cashback from Discover: Link your Discover card to your paypal accoount, then checkout with paypal. Phone works with both CDMA and GMS cell networks. Unlock it after 1 year and take it to any US carrier.

What's the best solution for an ACTUAL phone to serve as a backup to my main cell? (virtual numbers don't always work)

I actually mostly want it for services that require a cellular number to validate identities without giving my actual (work) cell. I do not intend on using it for phone calls often or texts - (almost) purely for confirming accounts.

Tracfone would work - just that they expire if not used... Then I have to re-up. Any other solutions?

Tello pay as you go. They don't really expired as long as you have credit. But u need Sprint compatible phone. Another option is freeup mobile. But u need to renew it every month.

Things like WeChat don't allow virtual numbers.

Thank you. I'll put a deal alert up... (I suppose I can buy a sprint compatible phone off ebay - just easier to buy from Tello and not worry about issues...)

Much appreciated...

Tracphones are typically locked for a whole year.

No idea. Probably the same, particularly if sold with service like this one. My wife did the BOGO LG Fiesta 2 deal a while back and there's a giant disclaimer n the box that states you have to have service for a year before unlocking.

First time tracfone buyer here. I just bought a tracfone phone and 1 year sim plan separately. If I buy this, can I transfer the service plan to the first phone? If yes, better to activate my 1 year sim plan first then transfer the minutes from this deal or other way around? Thanks.
