Damn. This is good for us here on SD. But I almost feel bad for the game maker. they did a really good job for a long time keeping their price fairly well controlled.

I suppose that's the risk when you sell your stuff to Walmart: always at risk of beingass clearanced. Then your items flood the secondary market dragging down the overall bvalue. Maybe they got enough on the deal where this won't affect them, but still kind of feels bad.

How complicated is this game? Is it good for an 11 year old? There is one store within 10 miles that has this price. Unfortunately the closest store almost never has any of these clearance deals.

Very easy to learn, an eleven year old should have no problem at all.

Fun game too, with nice weighted poker style chips that are iridescent. Highly recommend it!

One Walmart near me had only one left. Got it for $19. Not as good as $9 but still half price!

this is a killer deal for a great lightweight game, tempted to pick one up for a future gift.
Century: Spice Road came out later, which some prefer to Splendor.

Given how few components are actually in the game, it feels much more like a $15 or $20 game. It's a good game (not the best, but good), but not worth $40. This price actually feels like a deal rather than something that finally feels fair. If anyone reading this is interested in the game, this is a great price for what you get.

You win by getting 15 points. Certain cards will give you points. You can buy cards with poker chips that represent valuable gemstones. Getting more gemstones is one of a few actions you can choose to take on your turn. You can also reserve a card so that you're the only one that can buy it. Buying cards reduces the price of certain other cards you buy later. Having certain sets of cards will score you extra points (the Noble tiles). That's the entire game, minus some specifics I left out. It's pretty simple, but still fun and still has strategy. Do you buy cheap cards which don't give you victory points so that you get amazing discounts later? Do you skip them and go straight for victory points to try and close out the game early? Both can be viable, and what you should do depends on what other players are doing and which cards showed up.

The earlier editions of the game had a higher quality feel, the tokens were weighted, etc. Was surprised when I bought a copy for my brother and there was no heft to the cheap plastic. Great, easy to learn economic engine game that is worth more than $9 but certainly not $40 given the quality of the components now.

11yo could definitely play. My 7 & 9 yos play against each other, but it's still complicated enough that adults enjoy it too.
