Look what I found on the Hisense website: Product Comparison

Q. What's the difference between your R6E series and your R7E series that's on your website?

A. The TVs for the R6E and R7E series have the same basic features and design. Hisense has certain retail partners that require exclusivity of certain software or service configurations and to honor their business requirement, we've differentiated how the product they carry is promoted by using a different name of the series.
That's odd...R6 vs. R7 description

I already did the return half an hour ago. I think it's worth the process since I only had the R6 for 10 days before this deal popped up. Sure if I had the R6 for a month I wouldn't be as willing (plus Best Buy policy is 15 days only).

Highly unlikely this set has full array dimming. Which brings me to this...
"the "local dimming" could be nearly invisible, or dim huge swaths of the screen at a time, neither offering any benefit. In some cases, it could result in a worse picture.". Probably why the MSRP is lower on the R7.

I think imma stick with my R6. Looks perfectly fine as is.

Picked one up over the Father's Day sales. I had a 12 year old LCD and this thing blows it out of the water (obviously.) Can't compare it to many other things but I can say it's about the biggest bang for your buck if you're on a tight budget like I was.

Used the 55r7e from Costco for 6 months. It was OK. Not quite bright enough . Off angle viewing washed out. Roku is great.
I am no expert but I don't believe this is as good a panel as the TCL 6 series.
It was fine for me though

I've been waiting to upgrade my Samsung 50" plasma for 6 months, watching the prices fall, waiting for a good 65" TV to come down to $400 (my budget).

The R7 is the 2019 version of this TV, replacing the R6 series. The R6 has been as low as $399 as recently as just two weeks ago on August 5th. Now, this is the R7 series, one year newer and features the local dimming for the same lowest price - $399. I jumped on it.

Thanks for the deal.
I was in the same situation for the longest time. Loved my Samsung plasma.
For everyday viewing on a standard cable feed I still prefer my plasma.
Some kind posters on these threads tried to explain that would be the case but I did not believe them.
Finally offloaded the Hisense and bought an OLED and now I'm happy.
There are some pretty decent deals on 2018 LG OLEDs. ( Of course right after I bought mine)

Yeah, totally agree that I expect I will not be as happy with my day-to-day viewing on the Hisense. The 4k upscaling is not as good as you can get on higher-end TV's (though 4k content looks great they say).

Plasma was just such a superior picture IMO but the LCD's were cheaper to make so they eventually won out. I am still keeping the Samsung as long as I can, hopefully until OLED drops under $1,000 consistently.

My budget of only $400 was the deciding factor to jump here. I just think that this setup is the best at that point.

Will post back here 9 days from now and let everyone know what I think.

Exactly what I did except I didn't wait long enough for OLED price drop.
I Read somewhere that will soon happen due to a different manufacturing process
edit: found it

To each their own. But you have to admit that for someone that doesn't have the R6, the R7 for the same price is a better deal. Whether they use local dimming or not. It's just more features for the same price.

I thought you had the R6. And returned it for the R7.
Confused...

Yes, I did. Because the return process was fine for me.

Q: what is the difference between the hisense R6 and the R7 series? (1 Answer)
Best answer: The R6 comes preloaded with the Vudu app on the remote , where as the R7 does not.
