It's still a pretty good CPU, a lot of people are jumping at the Ryzen 3600, but for $50 bucks cheaper this is a pretty competitive (if slightly) older option. Of course it depends what you're doing with your rig as well.

Yes. I bought one for a better deal on Rakuten though. I looked at the 3600. But it wound up being almost $100 price difference for me, so the 2600x was a no brainer.

Not a good deal. If you are in the market. Add another $50 for a much faster 3rd generation Ryzen

The 3600 is ~10-15% faster, which may or may not be worth the extra $50 (+33%) depending on the buyer.

Bought the 3700x, coming from the 2600.
Nice to have the speed increase, but don't really need the extra two cores.
Providing theres a worthwhile improvement, I'll probably get the 4000 series 6 core next summer, if I haven't found some game or sandbox simulator, that uses the extra two.
That said, the 2600 is a great chip for the price, and read somewhere that AMD isn't doing a revolutionionary improvement for the ryzen 4000, like they did with the 3000.
So its your pick: The 2000 series for an inexpensive, all around chip or the 3000 series, for a decent improvement, not likely to be superseded within a year. More future proof, yes. Also, just because a chip is last gen, doesn't gimp it at all. This applies to the 2000 series.
Note that for the last 15 years, I have only put in about 40 hours for each pc that I have owned, before I sell off the parts, when I upgrade for fun .
Been using old cheap laptops with linux since 2004 for my main drivers.
So my experiences are from testing out a few games, and benchmarks.

iyou couldn't tell the difference in performance between the two in the real world...2600x is far more horsepower than most people need, this an excellent deal

Agreed, as a daily driver this is plenty powerful, and it can be paired with a decent graphics card for gaming. And as mentioned, the 3600 which people love is only a 10-15% improvement for 33% more, so get a much faster 3rd gen, you'll have to pony up a lot of cash.

is the ryzen 5 1600 still the best price/performance ratio APU for a budget 1080p gaming build?

or any other recommended CPU & discrete graphics combos worth a little extra money? Microcenter is nearby so CPU will have bundle discount.
