Hmm this is tough compared to the other deal (9700+2070 Super for ~$1200 before tax and after Visa gift card).

This works out to be about $150 more than that deal, but it has K-series cpu (though one gen older), 2080 (7% better than 2070 Super), and water cooling.

$1461 out the door for this config, and $1310 (AFTER Visa Gift card) for the other deal. Is $150 worth ~7% GPU performance/water cooling/overclockable CPU? *edit* Turns out, this deal also includes a WiFi upgrade over the old deal (see below)

I think the BIGGEST advantage of this deal is the shipping time. These boxes are ready made, and ship within a couple days. The other deal took a week or two, and the *new* version of the last deal doesn't arrive until the end of September.

**Edit** There are some other minor changes between the builds. This deal includes 256GB SSD + 2TB HDD--other deal has 1TB SSD and no HDD (I would personally prefer just the 1TB SSD in the other deal, but we'll call this a draw). This deal actually includes the Killer WiFi upgrade, which is a ~$25 upgrade on the other system. A lot of people in the other deal thread were saying to take the WiFi upgrade specifically for Bluetooth 5.0, so in a way that's another $25 off your final price if you take this deal over the other one.

If you upgrade the other deal to a 9700k and try to build as close to this deal as possible (taking 2070 Super), then it actually works out to cost more than this build even after the $200 Visa gift card from the other deal comes back-you trade your 8700k for a 9700k, but downgrade your 2080 to a 2070 Super. Then in the other deal you have to wait XX months for a $200 Visa gift card and 6 weeks for it to ship.

Ugh, did I just convince myself to buy this deal instead?

Okay, finally figured what's going on with these Dell Alienware sales. Been scratching my head and wasn't thinking basics.

Just checked, Dell reports their financial quarter Aug 29th. Sales on Alienware (maybe other stuff as well) must be on the low side for the quarter. They don't want to see their share price get hit so they're throwing out a lot of sales here.

I couldn't figure it out because generally a decent Alienware desktop sale hits SD, people here are running for it and they're sold out pronto. This time, the one where the sale ended on Aug 14th was running unusually long, ended, and they've already brought it back with a slightly lower price. Now this one here.

I don't know, if you're a gambler you might hold on tight for another week. If they're having a really bad quarter, and they must be with these long running sales, they may get desperate and really hit with some good pricing. If their stock gets hit they can lose a billion in 1 morning, a lot more than they would lose on some discounted desktops.

Just my 2 cents.

Keep in mind, if this one is the Aurora R7, which it should be since it's running 8th gen chip, you can't upgrade to i9-9900K later even thou both are using Z370, just because Alienware won't release a bios update to allow R7 take 9th gen CPU. (to force R7 user to buy R8 if they want i9-9900K)

looks good to me. if rumors are true that ps5 will be faster than 2070 super, we may be in for some beastly gpus by the time it comes out.

Would it be better to wait until Black Friday to get a beast desktop? Asking time travelers.
