In case you were wondering... the 2 in 2700 means 2nd Generation. The 3rd gen will work when some nerd hacks the bios

Meant Zen 2, Ryzen 2xxx is a die shrink and not considered to be the 2nd generation by AMD.

It's Zen+ (not Zen2) but IS considered an AMD 2nd generation chip along with:
2700x
2600
2600x

No point arguing over the pointless stuff.

I just want to make sure no one buys this expecting Ryzen 3xxx will work because they don't. Its been tried and Acer does not have any known plans to update their bios to support it.

What settings did you have to change?
Sorry, I just meant that I had to manually update the Radeon settings app itself. Turns out my app tried to update normally and failed, which left me with terrible performance. I just downloaded the newest version of Adrenalin to get it working correctly again.

Impossible. Intel does not license thunderbolt to AMD.
TB3 has been royalty free since March. However I've only seen support on x570 boards.

I have been looking for a gaming laptop. Mobility not an issue. So will this be good for gaming? I don't know much abut AMD and Vega 56 capability towards gaming. So will this be able to play any game recent and upcoming, with fairly decent not stuttering Frame rates on normal or medium settings?

Also i am in no rush; i can wait if better deals will follow with intel/rtx1070 combos.

Without any issue it can play Minecraft. Yes. Definitely overkill though if you're just interested in playing Minecraft.

Medium to medium-high at it's native resolution easily across the board.

TLDR: get a laptop with gsync or freesync enabled panel.

I currently have three gaming laptops: i7/ full gtx1060, i7/full gtx1080 with gsync, and this Ryzen 7/vega 56 with freesync.

The gtx1060 has the most noticeable stuttering when settings are maxed due to no gsync/freesync. Obviously the gtx1080 gsync laptop puts out the most frames per second of all my systems. What surprised me about ryzen 7/vega56 system is how smooth games run while I am running high intensity tasks in background. I was folding@home with both cpu and gpu and fired up Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition with maxed settings. Even though the framerate fluctuated between 45 to 80fps with background task, the freesync kept things smooth without micro stuttering/judder. I tried doing same thing on gtx1080 gsync laptop and noticed more variable frame times but still much better than the non gsync system. Makes me think the extra threads and async compute engine in Vega56 helps smooth out multitasking.
