This is a desktop replacement laptop with a desktop CPU. It trounces every mobile chip in performance but the battery life is nonexistent. The Vega 56 is also very good for gaming with performance somewhere between a RTX 2060 and 2070. If you don't need portability, this is a great deal.

Would this be a better option then a Msi GS65 with i7-9750/1660ti (paid $1320) Portability and battery life really aren't a problem since it will mostly just be moved around the house and i can just put it in a bag if need be

Yes. I wont say why because i suggest reading at least the first couple amazon reviews. Very detailed pros and cons

Very different laptops. I believe the GS line was made to be slim/portable gaming machine... this laptop is a beefcake. It's bigger (17" laptop, 1.5in thick, over 9 lbs) and has better key hardware (CPU, GPU) but as others have mentioned, it's laptop in name only honestly.

If I had the option though, I'd get this. I have a MSI GE63 with a 9750h and that processor is simply put, a bad processor. This isn't about Intel vs AMD or whatever people want to make it out to be, it's just a fact. You'll never get the advertised speeds because it's constantly throttled due to heat. Google it, and you'll see tons of complains about the 9750h (which is honestly seems like a renamed 8750h). And big laptops, yeah, it sucks moving it from one place to another but most of the time, it's stationary so not a huge deal IMO.

You can get a hp omen with rtx 2070 for about the same price paired with i7 9xxx, granted the desktop grade cpu is more powerful and cooling is probably better with this, but man, im not sure if i want to be seen with this in a business meeting

Literally different ends of the weight scale. GS65 is called stealth for a reason and this is a desktop replacement. Stationary for the most part vs super mobile
