What's with these lab tops with 4K screen but weak cpu and gpu?
It is a Laptop, not Lab Top
Did not get your point. These laptops are not designed for gaming where you need very high performance CPU and GPU. These are Portable machines with very good display and decent Processing and Graphics power and mainly targeted for multimedia, Productivity, Photo and Video editing on the go, without being bulky. Not sure why you are getting so confused because these kind of laptops exist for very very long time. HP Envy and Spectre series, Asus Zenbook 360 degree, Lenovo Yoga 700 series, all are example of these kind of Laptops.

Excuse my iPad for autocorrecting the words I typed. You sound like you're very knowledgeable in this arena, let me ask you this:

I'm looking for a laptop that can handle CAD like Rhino, solidworks and zbrush. So I'd like to have higher screen resolution than 1080p with a fast cpu to handle grasshopper calculations and good gpu to handle larger 3d models. Do you a good laptop recommendation for my needs at this price range?
So you want something with much better specs than this posted computer, but for the same price?

What is your budget? The software you are mentioning may require a Workstation level CPU. My suggestion will be the XPS 15 9570 4K model with i7-8750H, GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q, 16GB DDR4 and 512GB SSD. Due to various deals, that comes around $1250 to $1400. In fact, the new OLED 4K model was $1500 couple of weeks back which I posted here.

Thanks buddy! I'll be looking out for a sale on the xps. I hardly see any workstations on sale. It seems that people mostly post gaming and multimedia laptops here.

That is not true, you have to check properly. Dell XPS 15 deals have been posted multiple times within $1300. Also, there are some Laptops which serve both gaming and productivity purpose. Gigabyte AERO 15 series is one of such example.

this checks all the boxes except for price. With ice lake on the way these should be 200$ cheaper.

I'm not really knowledgeable about laptop pricings but a convertible with a very nice 4k ips display, gtx 1050, 8565u (which is still pretty recent), 16gb ram and amazing build quality (full aluminum) is pretty worth it for $1050 isnt it? Has there been any better deals recently?

I see what you are saying and I use the same software for school. I wouldn't get this laptop for SW use. SW uses a lot of power when meshing and analyzing parts for possible failure. This is a 4k resolution and that drains battery pretty fast so I cant imagine how fast this will drain whne usinh SW or other CAD software.
