Looks like a good deal for an SSD with 5 year warranty.

https://www.microcenter.com/produ...-s-25-quot

Specs from intel site.

https://www.intel.com/content/www...s-3d2.html

Some of the specs on the the microcenter website looks incorrect. Endurance is 144TBW (vs 72 on microcenter specs) and read speed is 550MBps.

With 5 year warranty and $1 more than their inland drive, this looks like a good deal to speed up an old laptop.

This is just a statement to make you feel bad, some people get satisfaction from putting other's down.
Only sensitive people will take offense to that while others will be glad to have that extra data point

Speed will be pretty much the same. You're limiting factor is the USB interface, not the SATA speed. USB HDD for the same price for way more storage space.

Again, if stated for family pics. You can also look into online solutions. Google gives you a ton for free with your Gmail account.
Gmail only gives uou about 15gb. But for 3 bucks a month you can get 200gb

Will this fit an Apple laptop ?
It will fit in some Apple laptops, but not all. In many cases, even thou it fit, it will not work.

DARN! I want one of these but the nearest store is 26 miles away.
26 miles in LA, or Cleveland, Ohio? Big difference.

Is there an easy way to check if, and what kind of SSD a laptop would accept?
And what to do if the HD needs to be removed?
TIA.

Micro Center claims they regularly sell this fo $109.99. What a bold faced LIE!
I bought this same drive for about that price when it first came out.

Yes, the easy way is to know what laptop you have first, what it's capable and what not. Then work from there.

Why? A 256G thumb drive, comes with enclosure for same price as this drive without the enclosure. If for family pics, you do not need SSD speed. Grab a 2TB external for $30 (256Gx8).
ANY pc needs SSD speed.

This isn't even a question anymore, even the oldest practical core 2 pc will massively increase in usability with a decent ssd upgrade.

I do know the makes and models of all three of the laptops in use by my mom, but beyond that, nothing.

Would you rather not have known about price history? Then what is the point of sites like camelcamelcamel?
Price history claims are also pointless without an link to them. Your memory could be faulty.

Extra data points should for 256GB, not for 500GB. This is a good deal for people needing SSD with budget within 30$ like me.

I'm actually amazed that Fairfax is still showing 10+ available.
Hell Fairfax is where people line up for GPU releases, for crying out loud lol.
