Always thought the c414 looked like a great mic, but I've never had a chance to use one. Still a little too rich for my blood though.

I borrowed one from a friend many years ago. Used it live withmy band, decreasing the sensibility. Pretty amazing what it captured in terms of vocals. I'd totally buy it if I had the money.

I can't say anything about this seller or how making an offer works, but I can say a bit about this microphone. To start, it retails over $1,000 and it's not easy to find at a discount. $699 is a steal.

This C414 XLII is incredible on acoustic guitar and vocals. Which is not to say it doesn't shine with stunning versatility. If you are recording, and can only invest into one really great mic, you should consider this. A great recording is all you need and there aren't enough effects processors (plugins) in the world that can fix a poor recording. I've never seen this new for less than $800. If you can manage the matched pair at this price, jump on it. You will not be sorry you did.

Fantastic on all vocals. I've been recording with the same AKG C414-BULS for 30 years, and it's just so round and rich. This variant is just as good or better.

Why not the ever popular Shure SM7B? Much less and is an industry standard for voice.

For broadcast, perhaps and, yes, for other vocals, the SM7b is often recommended, but you're talking about different flavors with condenser mic vs a dynamic, and different applications. I would assume the c414 would be more versatile (and would need less from the preamp). Also, the SM7B is a bulky mic, weighing more than twice the weight of the c414. I just think you're not really comparing the same type of thing, but if you want to get into it....

These are really great! Have one for recording in our home studio. We switched over to it a while back and my daughter's voice just had a better sound overall on the recording. Getting in on this deal, as I am jealous of the one we bought for my daughter.
