Before being quite so condescending, it's probably best to have the actual facts straight.

sleepyrx has it correct, if you go the "buy carts" route.

The pricing sleepyrx lists is mostly accurate, although you can find generic pre-chipped TN760 carts for between $12 (rare) to $24. Average everyday price is closer to $18 to $20. Also, generic chips can introduce a layer of possible issues. It's rare, but happens from time to time.

sleepyrx is also correct that th3 "Slickdeal" opportunities are much more readily available for TN660 compatible carts than TN760 compatible carts.

It's also worth adding drum unit costs into the mix as well.

DR630 compatible drums run $6 to $10, $8 average, or even cheaper than $6 on an SD.

DR730 compatible drums run $16 to $26,.$21 average, or slightly cheaper than $16 on an SD.

Yield for both drums is identical. About 12,000 page.

And similar to carts again, "Slickdeal" opportunities are more readily available for DR630 compatible drums than DR730 compatible drums.

It depends on how much you print. If you print 50 to 100 pages per month or less, it likely doesn't matter much which you choose. That's 1 new cart every 18 to 36 months.

If you print 50 to 100 pages per day, that's 6 to 12 carts per year.

If the latter (or more) output is more likely than the former, it's also better to look into refilling OEM carts rather than purchasing generics, even if using TN660.

These Brother printers (even the TN760 models) can handle quite a workload if properly maintained.

Generic TN660 toner itself is actually fairly decent for the most part. Not all are great, but most of the brands which appear on SD are just fine. V-4INK, EZ-Ink, Link-yo, etc.

The real breakdown and flaw of compatible carts is their engineering and durability. In general, they do not compare with the OEM originals in terms of longevity.

So, if truly looking for cost savings and doing high output printing, refilling OEM carts is a better and more "Slickdeal" route.

TN660 compatible AIOs and printers in general are becoming much more rare from places like Office Depot, Staples, Amazon, etc. You can still find them occasionally but it's much more of a hunt.

Better options are the Refurbished route [brothermall.com] from Brother directly or eBay. Decide the model whose features meet your needs and set-up searches, software, or scripts (page monitoring software, digest searches from eBay, etc). Refurbs from Brother direct are good because they have warranties of 1 year or more.

TN660 compatible models are:

Printers:
HL L2300D
HL L2305W
HL L2315DW
HL L2320D
HL L2340DW
HL L2360DW

AIOs:
DCP L2520DW
DCP L2540DW
HL L2380DW
MFC L2680W
MFC L2685DW
MFC L2700DW
MFC L2705DW
MFC L2707DW
MFC L2720DW
MFC L2740DW

It does not. This has duplex printing but does not scan or copy in duplex/two sided.

Looks like this one has AirPrint. Maybe I should price match to Staples and use Amex offers.

I have this printer. Works really well and does work with AirPrint. Only issue I have is doesn't have scanning built in to email. Has to use an app on computer but otherwise works great.

Does it do Double Sided copying through the Document Feeder?

Stay away from this. Put your money toward the one that uses TN660 ink
First of all, it's toner, not ink. And second, the TN760 cartridges (which this uses) are cheap, as are replacement drums. Yes, the TN660 cartridges are cheaper, but they have a much lower yield. Once you adjust for price per sheet, they're about the same.

So why would you prefer a TN660-based printer?

Hopefully someone will respond to this, got a brother laser printer similar to this one all setup and working but what is the best printer service to install on my android phone so I can print from my phone?

There are 3 main options it seems like if you want to print from your phone.. Brother plugin/Google Cloud plugin/Mopria plugin. The user guide says Mopria/Brother and also talks about how this printer is compatible with Google Cloud Printer 2.0. Not sure which one is the best or recommended for Brother laser printers?

Hmm, surprised about that; I have an at least 10-year-old Brother MFP that's still going strong, and toner is really cheap since I can buy from anyone. Yeah, a cheap printer isn't cheap if you have to buy expensive toner (i.e. must buy Brother brand).
