Combine this with a $10 discount of when you spend $50 or more which is on their homepage and it comes out to only $49.99. For the $10 savings, just click the "Get Started" button where it says $10 Off for every $50 You Spend". Then hit redeem now. The discount will automatically appear when you checkout. I turned my 10+ years old Samsung USB only printer into a wifi-enabled cloud printer with CUPS on a PI. Couldn't be happier. I followed this article on how to install CUPS on pi and the example printer they used is Brother HL-2170W. https://www.howtogeek.com/169679/...-computer/
From the screen shots, looks like there are a lot of drivers baked in for Brother HL line of printers.

A bonus of using Pi as a print server is that you can turn it into a Google Cloud Print server. I followed this article to do so. Worked great! https://www.howtogeek.com/169566/...nt-server/

Got it. Thanks OP.
Btw, was looking for historic prices of this printer, and seems like it was $50 on BF-2018 as well.

Also in one of the forums, you can add wifi using a Pi zero to create a printer server.
I will give that a shot.

And it uses TN-660 toner .. and I have been looking for one.. and this is perfect.
Been following this thread that talks more about this: https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=129856393&postcount=33
Big thanks to MClab & sleepyrx

I already have a HP printer for scanning and occasional color printing (via free Instant Ink service), so now my printing needs are covered .. and I no longer would need to monitor what my kids print and how many pages.

No.

I will give that a shot.
Pi's typically use CUPS or a Linux specific driver to accomplish that, so it's a possibility.

I've done that sort of thing in the past for other printer models, but I can't comment intelligently on this specific Brother printer.

I have a similar model printer to this. Great printer. The only issue I have is that after it is on for a few minutes, I guess it goes into sleep mode. For some reason though, when I print something it doesn't awake it from sleep mode. I have to turn the printer off then back on. Anyone else have this problem, and have a solution to it?

The instructions are model-specific.

But in general, these would be the steps to follow (warning: these are for a different model printer):

Could be a sleep or deep sleep issue.

First, check that setting.

How to do that -

About Deep Sleep Mode [brother.com]

And adjust the setting appropriately.

I also encourage people to turn off their printers or AIOs when not in use for long periods of time.

If that doesn't solve the issue, the firmware may need to be updated. The sleep/deep sleep issue is one Brother has corrected in many printers and AIOs via a firmware update.

Check your firmware version.

How to do that -

Check the Firmware Version [brother.com]

If the firmware is not the most current, go to the downloads section for the L2700DW, select your OS, and download the Firmware Update Tool.

L2700DW Downloads [brother.com]

Using that update tool, you'll likely need to connect via USB.
If you list the exact model, I can put together better instructions for your specific case.

Thank you for the response. The model number is HL-L2340DW. I've searched a lot, but could never really find anything that worked. The firmware update might fix it though...I don't remember when the last time I've updated that.
