Update: M4 DEAL IS SOLD OUT but promo still good on other Taylormade clubs through 8/21

Globalgolf.com has 20% off Taylormade preowned clubs (Code: TAYLORMADE) plus free shipping (Code: FREESHIP199) until 8/21 (promo details say expires 8/18, but still working).

Among other items, this reduces M4 iron set (4-PW, AW) to $351.99 ($439.99 -$88 - $4.99). Similar clubs on 2ndswing.com are $599.

This is my first deal post so feedback is appreciated.

I'm the guy who makes the groundskeepers grimace at what I do to grass. I think it appears, cruel. For you golfers who know, how does this compare the the Callaway Edge set at Costco $500 10 piece? How much of a better deal, and/or clubs are these? Thanks! Yes, I'm old if that matters.
I second this question. I'm on the same boat. I had a set of Callaway x18 that was stolen out of my car and I want to replace those. I'm still a beginner. Do I go for the Callaway Edge or the M4?

I've been playing a set of forged turn of the century Nike Blades (first ones) for years. Had them regripped once. They are stiff and extra loft and I'm not huge and don't swing that fast so I'm giving up some distance, but I like the feel. I play like 6 times a year now and play bogey golf.

Would these be a better fit for where I am? Seems like worth a shot based on the comments and I should probably look into getting mine spruced up, but the money may be better spent on a new set.

Looks like low cost ones are gone so I'm out, but still curios in case it comes back.

Thanks for the info. I haven't played golf in years but the price was so low on these I bought and maybe I'll get back into it.

Well, you could easily resell it for the price you paid if it doesn't work out!

I think if you are still considering yourselves a beginner (i.e., don't have a handicap nor care to have one) then the equipment is less important than the time spent out on the course. I think the anecdote here is that for a golfer who shoots 90s-100s, handing them a $500 or a $50 set of clubs will yield likely very similar results. That being said, the newer technology will certainly be helpful when you compare something like an old blade iron to one of the new cavity backs.

In my opinion, any set within the last decade will be just fine. Most of the consumer-grade club sets offer a wide sole, oversized faces and cavity back (as opposed to a thin/blade sole, tour faces, and muscle/solid backs - all of which are much harder to play well with).

In my case, I am currently at 16 handicap and am dropping rather dramatically this year (consistently finding myself in the low 80s) and still use Callaway Razr X HL's from 2012.

Lastly, I think money spent on a newer putter is worth it. I see guys playing with super old (NOT Scotty Cams - they're timeless ) putters and they practically give away strokes.

Reference my comment above, I think based on the small slice of info you gave, you're in the same ballpark as a high-handicapper. If you have extra stiff or stiff shafts and KNOW you have a slow swing, moving to a regular or even a senior shaft might benefit you; depending on what type of golfer you are.

$285 for a set of M4s was a deal and a half, and i'm still super sad I didn't bite (I was the first to see it!) but c'est la vie.

globalgolf, threeballs, rockbottomgolf, hurricanegolf, callaway preowned, etc. are all great places to find good deals on used golf clubs. I'm sure if you upgraded to something with newer iron technology you'll instantly find some game improvements. I wouldn't go recommending spending $500 on irons just yet though!

I think you might need to check with GlobalGolf, but I wouldn't assume that. They buy clubs and take trade ins so it could be people who bought, played a few times and returned them or sold them back.
