It would cost me more than $5 to replace the calories needs to be a blood market I would sell/buy for a fair price.

Most everyone would give blood willingly and ask for nothing in return. However, if you're going to offer something in return, at least make it a sincere effort for thanking anyone kind enough to give blood that hospitals so desperately need. To me, this $5 GC is just so wrong and seems worse than offering nothing. Better to offer nothing and run blood drives.

I mean this is from the Red Cross, they run blood drives all the time and sometimes offer small incentives/gifts. If it was an amazon sponsored "$5 for a pint of your blood" type of thing that would def be odd

Would jump at a "blood swap" offer:
2 pints of my old Type O for 1 pint of young Type O.

Unit of blood goes for $200-300. Should get a year of Prime. Red Cross is a bit better than private for-profit blood banks though.

As someone who greatly benefitted from people selflessly donating blood ( during 2 emergency open heart surgeries)'- I think anything that will motivate someone to donate is good. I don't get all the negativity here. Truly guys, donating blood is something that you can do that can literally help save someone's life. How in the world can't you be complaining about the Red Cross offering an extra $5 gift card as an added bonus for your donation!?

I'm sure there are plenty of people willing and ready to do donate blood without any reward...

I'll be honest.. some people just aren't comfortable to donate blood and they shouldn't be convinced otherwise over a small gift card to change their way of thinking...

This could also be another thing. Someone was already thinking of donating and this was the deciding factor. Many ways to think about it.

But I personally think it's wrong to entice people with $5 gift cards to make that the choice.

Donating blood is a great thing, but this is more of an ethics thing when it comes to the GC.

I really don't think the $5 giftcard is what's going to make someone decide to donate (personally). In my opinion I think the giftcard is more likely a motivation for people that were already thinking about or planning on donating but just hadn't gotten around to doing it yet. I think hearing about that $5 giftcard as that tiny bonus would be a reminder to them about donating and get them to actually get moving to make that donation that they were planning on doing anyways. I don't really see $5 being a big enough draw to actually change someone's mind into donating if they hadn't already been thinking about or planning on donating already though.
