I've had this one for about a year and its worked great for me. I use it for home/small office applications and don't shed millions of documents. Yes, if you're a hospital and have 1 shredder, this won't do it for you. If you shred mail and print outs, keep it oiled and don't try and jam 100 sheets at a time down it, does great. I bet I've put 1500 pages through it without issue. For the price, works great for me.

Time for an upgrade maybe. I bought 2 ativa shredders in 2008 or so and use them for small office/home shredding.

One ended up getting fin damaged after about 8 mos of use while the other one is still going strong. Was pretty sure it was time for an upgrade but after all the negative reviews, not sure if I want to risk it lol

You can add a 4 year protection plan to this for 4.00 I would also recommend getting the sharpening & lubricant sheets that are 6.00 for a pack of 12.

I'm going on 3 years with mine, never oiled it and still going strong.

There is also a 6 sheet, high security shredder on sale too for $31.96. Supposedly shreds sensitive documents 6x smaller than cross cut.

A good one is like 300 - this is probably not worth it
I purchased this shredder and it's been fine for me after having gone through countless shredders like the one posted here.

Thanks for mentioning the protection plan. But the 24 pack of the lubricating and sharpening sheets is a better deal. 24 for $10.49

Edit: After thinking it over, decided not to go with the protection plan (it was $6.99 for the micro shredder version). Amazon has a 1 year warranty that seems to cover all I would need it for

All these shredders break quickly. I haven't bought one since I had my medical practice and paid close to $1000 for an "industrial size" one. Even then it broke after a few months. Now, I just let it accumulates and take it to free shred day my community has 3x a year.
The best one by far is the fellows brand. I've tried several brands and the fellows is the one that holds up, even after I overload it.

Why are there so many Amazon Warehouse listings for this product? Makes me worried if people are returning them en masse and Amazon is relisting them used.
Good observation, that's exactly whats going on

I've had this for 4 years now. Still going strong. Fill it up once a week usually and I oil it regularly but not every single time I empty it. Good shredder.

Edit: As someone else mentioned, the Amazon basics 6-sheet micro-cut shredder is on sale for $31.96, one of the lowest prices ever. Might be worth the extra couple of bucks at that point.

The product reviews look like this shredder might stop working anywhere between 3-6 months of use... Might be a gamble to see if this thing holds up.

I'm 99% sure this is against PHI and HIPAA rules...

Just bought that one in July for 42.99 and have been pleased with it.

I will say this, we returned the cross cut because my grandma wanted the paper shredded even smaller. She said her old unit was cross cut not sure what brand and it shredded the paper into smaller pieces than this one. I have no idea if her old one was cross cut or not so it might have been micro. Anyways there was nothing wrong with our unit just didn't shred into small enough pieces for her liking.
