I bought this last December when it's on sale for $1 less than today's price, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Q3KFX8U

The trouble is I didn't open the shipment and just left in garage, but couldn't find it anymore after I last cleaned up garage. Should I buy this one in case I lost the last purchase?
if you're asking me if I would recommend this shredder, I wouldn't know yet since it's still not arrived. However, if I were you I would just buy it now while it's on sale. If u did find your old one in the garage, you can still return the new one easily

Nice current deal and just for future reference ,,, ALDI carries a shredder for every Tax season around this same price point. I have that one and and it has been great for many years of non-business use.

Regarding Amazon's ratings this one https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-8-Sheet-Strip-Cut-Credit-Shredder/dp/B01DN9NX0I/ [amazon.com] is better and cheaper - $26.24
That's a strip cut, rather than a cross cut, model - a much lower security standard.

I am not really happy with amazon basics stuff. Had a bitter experience with camera flashes, camera bag and lighting cable. All of them went bad in less than a year. The only good part is either they replaced or refunded. So wanted to keep myself away from amazon basics.

Our AmazonBasics normal line shredder we had for about 10 months stopped feeding - sent it back on warranty, got one of these, and it's been great ever since. No issues. Overheated once (shut off) when I went on a shredding spree, waiting a bit for it to cool off (working as intended)

Works good! Recommend!

Regardless of what shredder you buy the most important things to remember are to constantly oil it (the oil is cheap enough) and to not overload it when shredding. I think too many (myself included) try to stick a few sheets to many in. These machines are more delicate than the manufacturers lead us to believe. If they say it will shred 10 sheets at a time, bet on a more realistic & safer number being around 4.

I purchased this shredder and it's been fine for me after having gone through countless shredders like the one posted here.

My point is that these cheap shredders won't hold up over time or with any extended use.
You end up paying about the same in the long run having to replace a shredder all the time.

Oiled paper

I got the micro one 2 years ago for like $30 from warehouse. It was "like new" but damaged box so it was really new.
Still working great. Never noticed they had to be oiled frequently... I bought the bottle oil and my shredder is happy again.

Should be obvious, but obviously only shred plastic credit cards. Any metal credits cards will destroy most shredders. You can request an envelope from your credit card company to return an expired metal credit card.

Also, echoing others here to use lubrication oil/sheets to keep your shredder in good shape (run the oil/sheet through the shredder then run in reverse for 10 seconds).

This shredder has a duty cycle rating of just 3 minutes, meaning if you shred for 3 minutes continuously, you have to turn it off for at least 30 minutes to let it cool down. Most lower priced shredders are rated for at least 5 minutes of continuous shredding followed by 30-60 minutes of off time.

This shredder cuts paper into 1.8" x .4" pieces, or security level P3, big enough for thieves to often read your shredded documents even without reassembling them. You want at least a P4 or P5 security rating to guarantee your privacy, meaning a "micro cut" shredder.

Most shredders require lubricant to be applied occasionally with a sheet of paper that's had oil applied to it, not by having oil applied directly to the cutters. The oil is like sewing machine oil, meaning vegetable oil, and one shredder maker sells canola oil. However some shredders, often micro-cut models, must never be lubricated.
