anyone familiar with the latest tech news or Samsung tablet market know what's the most current 8-inch tablet? Or if any new models are going to be announced? I just recently got back in the market looking for tablet, but 10-inch tablets seem to dominate all the deals, and I preferably want something a bit smaller. Something like an iPad mini would be ideal, but I prefer to stick with android OS. Any feedback or advice would be great.

oh wow! awesome, thanks for the quick response! Good to know they finally updated those. I keep seeing deals for older models (2016/2017 models). Off the top, are you aware of any significant changes/updates? Or is it a pretty routine update.

iPad mini 5 came out a few months ago. Rest is underpowered 8 inch tablets from Aliexpress. Tab 8 A is only quad core. Aliexpress has hex core but GPU is very underpowered. I just gave up and switched back to Apple 8 inch tablets after 5 years of Android

That's pretty much what I concluded in my research for a small form factor tablet. The iPad mini was the best bang for buck in terms of overall power/form/battery/etc.. Researching Samsung tablets on the other hand was a nightmare, they have so many variations and the naming convention is all over the place. Tough for someone who hasn't kept up with the changes.

Biggest obstacle for me was of course the iOS. I prefer and use android for everything. The tablet is mainly for reading, but I do want the flexibility of being able to use the tablet for other media, (i.e. side load things).

By the way, I did some quick google searches, but didn't find any mention of this. Do you have a link to any tech sites or press releases about this? As I noted, Samsung's naming convention makes it hard to separate search results. Seems like the big new today for Samsung is the release of Android Pie for their S3 I think, which is already dated with the Android Q coming out.

The Tab A 8" a pen version comes with a octa-core and 3gb ram.

I'll have to see where I saw the release and post it.

Check Amazon for the tab it literally went in stock this morning for 149. As you note the model number sounds just like another older Samsung tablet.

I also used to root but I am pleasantly surprised how much the iPad ecosystem grew. You can split screen apps, more games including PC ports are coming to iPad and the new a12 chip means the 2019 model should continue to be supported for a good few years. It's only quad core but an apple quad core beats Qualcomm any day of the week and the GPU is supposedly best in class. I am using it on a flight with a nice 3rd party keyboard and haven't been this happy since the days of using my nvidia k1 shield tablet.

I think I might have found the tablet you're talking about, however, this is an old article and seems to be for the international market. The tablet is called Samsung Galaxy Tab A Plus 2019, specifically, SM-P200 and P205.

Hopefully you're able to find an article about the tablet for the US market.
