A question from a neophyte:

Should I get two set for front and back? Or should I just get these for the fronts and build from there?

I have always liked the looks of Definitive Technologies' speakers, but it seems like these are great speakers.

Thank you in advance.
Price wise its insane deal.I was inclined to buy Definitive 9080.now i am confused.Need some help to choose between these. How these speakers are compared with def tech 9080 Performance

Thank you

This is quite the farkin' deal. Atmos wouldn't work with the way my ceiling is arched currently, but still thinking of picking these up for when I inevitably move.
Pick them them up and don't connect the upfiring speaker. This is $50 more that the "lowest" for the RP-280F. You can now get the RP-500SA and mount them as front and rear heights.

I think the rp-450c or the rp-504c would pair good with these. There's a seller on amazon that ran out of the 450c so they were giving people a free upgrade to the rp-504c. The 504c retails for $649 and they were selling them for $449. I don't know if they're still doing the free upgrade but I'm going to message the seller tomorrow and find out. The name of the seller is Sound Distributors.

Original details are on another thread.

Choose the correct seller.
Order the rp-450c.
Copy your order number.
Select message vendor.
Choose Shipping Dept.
Send your Amazon order number and ask nicely for a upgrade to the RP-504C.

I was successful doing this 2 months ago. Last month I used the same process for upgrade of side/surround speakers and was successful.

Confirm you are sending your correct order number.
Confirm you are messaging the Shipping Dept.

What is considered the "Invoice" for the rebate? Is that something that will be on Adorama's site after shipping? So far I've gotten an email confirmation.

I can't afford to screw up a $100 rebate.

I have the Reference 5's that look almost identical to these with the exception of Atmos. With 10' ceilings would these be much of an upgrade?

These sound great! I paid $900 for them when they had the previous FW sales. They are HUGE and heavy though.

Some people always get pissed at me for stating the obvious but no one can tell you how those two would compare/sound to you, only you can.

Best thing you can do is see you find somewhere to listen to them.

I will point out that your comparing two pretty different sounding speakers, these are horn tweeters and the Def Techs are silk dome ones.
These are more efficient also.

These are not going to end up my ultimate speakers... Probably more like a "Replacement to my RF 82 iis until I want better". But the Atmos is wasted where I am now, is the downside.
Well even more so I believe holding off till you move would be better.
IMO if you have the 82ii, even if you think these would be an upgrade In the grand scheme of things it's going to be an incremental one.
In my experience I found that going after that top of list(ultimate speakers) speakers for you is the best thing to do. Even if you have to buy it piece by piece.
If you do you will end up with the best system quicker and will save you money in the long run.
These incremental upgrades people do cost you so much in the long run.

I don't trust adorama. I bought 2 sets in December and I STILL have a busted one sitting in my living room. I've turned it over the the lawyers now.

I wonder how bad these would look with my walnut RP-280FA fronts and RP-450c center?

Edit: Plus, I'd have to upgrade my receiver to be able to drive the two additional Atmos speakers, and still not get the Atmos experience you get with actual ceiling speakers...

Well look wise I would ask how many people would actually see them and how often compared to how often you would listen to them and enjoy them.

Another thing to consider is many times using towers/floorstanding speakers as rears, the majority of sound is blocked by your seating.

I would agree with you that the best way to take advantage object base sound is down firing/in ceiling speakers.
I will state that this is subjective and some people believe that these alternatives work well also.
