That plus a nice B450, or even X570, board will work really well.

If playing any games with it make sure to get at least 3200mhz ram or faster.

How well does an overclocked 3200G compare to the overclocked 1600, that can only go to 3.8gh?
(Single, dual, and quad core speeds)
Just attempting for discern which is a better value/speedier.

1600 is much better unless you're needing the on board GPU on the 3200g.

Definitely. Throw in an RX570 and you're good to go if 1080P is your target resolution.

I know this is slightly off topic, but this seems to good to be true. Scam?

Edit: looking at the other things the seller has (a huge bulky grill with free shipping for 18 dollars?)--- it's a scam

How would this scam work?

> Returns: Seller does not accept returns

Isn't that a sure way of having Paypal deciding on the customer's favor?

> New: A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Packaging should be the same as what is found in a retail store, unless the item is handmade or was packaged by the manufacturer in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details. See all condition definitions

Hmm, the 3200G wins in dual and quad, and is the same for single core, on Aver user bench. But overall, the 1600 is obviously the winner. I'll just pair it up with my old 9400GT.

is the ryzen 3 3200g better than the ryzen 5 2400g in gaming FPS? i think the 2400g has vega 11 and the 3200g has vega 8, but this has a higher number (3200 > 2400).

the Vega 11 and 8 threads tips in favor of the 2400G
everything else the 3200G is equal or better.

The parent's aging pc is starting to get slow. I built it years ago with an AMD Athlon X2 245 @2.90ghz. I'm looking at overhauling it with a new mobo, cpu, memory, and ssd. I haven't kept up with cpu's in recent years. All they do is web surf, email, solitaire and it will be an NVR for their outdoor Amcrest camera. How will this CPU fare for these tasks? I was also looking at the AMD RYZEN 5 2600 6-Core 3.4 GHz for $133.

You'll need to add a graphics card to the R5 2600 as it doesn't have an integrated GPU, given what your parent will be using it for, Id go with this 3200G

This should be able to handle that. The 2600 is more powerful, but it needs a dedicated GPU, so unless you already have a gpu, the 2600 option could be a bit more expensive than the 3200g.

Like others have said, go with 3200g over 2600 unless you have a GPU to recycle (even then it will probabaly be overkill).

I'd go with a low end b450 board (but you might have issues with 3200g working directly out of the box until bios are updated. Some shops will do it for you if you buy the board though them, amd has a kit you can borrow for free, or some boards have a bios flashback feature which allows you to update bios without cpu). Also, make sire the board you get has the proper connections for your parents monitor. (dvi is the only option on my parents monitor).

Conversely, if you get a deal on a 2200g or 2400g, either will still be overkill for your parents and you won't have to worry about bios on a b450 board.
