Great price but thei model has problems.

The biggest problem with this device is that it cannot see the bottom 30" of your door. If you had a package dropped off and wanted to see if it was still there - you will not be able to.

Also we found that if you come at it from the side along the wall up to the door in a crouch it often did not trigger the motion detection function so if you have it set to record only when there is motion to conserve the battery, instead of constant on, more than half the time it didn't catch us taking the package we put at the bottom of the door to do testing.

After trying an uneven spacer to try and tilt the lens it left the section that goes through the door exposed and although we could now see part of the outer edge of the walkway we still could not see the area about 26"+/- closest towards the door or the area to either side of the lower half of the door. Look at 3rd photo above, that's the entire view. Ring customer service said there hadn't been any other complaints like mine - bull.

This specific Ring product is a peephole camera primarily for those who cannot make permanent installations such as renters, where changing out the existing doorbell or adding an external battery model with it's mounting screws isn't permitted, so your options are not applicable. This attaches through the hole that was already made for the existing peephole and as such when you move out you can easily reinstall the original device. This Ring also allows you to utilize a manual slide to look out to see who is at the door if you aren't near your phone or other device.

The information I shared was for those who expected this to be like all the other Ring cameras when it is not. The Ring Pro doorbell I installed on one place came with angled mounting adapters and had a series of adjustments to the zones to hone in on where & what you wanted to see, as did the Ring camera mounted over the patio, but this does not have those same advanced options.

You cannot use wedges or spacers as it can only be mounted flush or you expose the tube that goes through the door, there are no advanced zone settings so you can't fix the problem with a small child or someone who may think to crouch down and come at it from the side and take a delivery - you are right you can go back and see if you "had" a delivery while you were out, possibly needing to sort through many unrelated motion activations, but you cannot check to see if it is still there (or with what happened to a neighbor who received a second delivery and that person took the first delivery and was only caught because another neighbors camera caught them walking away with it.)

If you want a Ring device to easily talk with someone at your door while you are out, or to be notified when packages are dropped off, and can afford to not only pay a premium for the device but for the service as well this actually seems to work as intended and does it fine, but if you are expecting it to perform and offer the coverage that the other Ring devices do you will be disappointed - that's all I had hoped to convey in my long winded way.

Easy to install with no physical damage and able you to replace your peephole with a smart camera. It fit around an existing peephole in your front door. So this is made primarily for people who live in an apartment or condo with a door peephole that felt left out that they could not install the other Ring door products. So yes, if your backdoor has a peephole, you can install this door cam since that is only thing needed to install this door cam.

Nothing is perfect. The ring is a "good" product. Does it have issues? Yes. Mine works well and reliably. If I need to see if I have a package, I simply click on the "motion" or "ring" alert in the app and it will show the replay video of the person dropping off the package. If you need additional video coverage that you can't get with a single ring doorbell, add an inexpensive additional wide angle camera somewhere that will at least let you see the areas that the ring can't, although it may or may not alert you to movement. I bought an inexpensive wedge adapter that angles my ring doorbell directly at whomever is standing directly in front of my front door. Luckily my front door is in an alcove so people can't "sneak up" along a wall without triggering the ring.

Also, if you buy a "pro", it does have a small internal battery that can't be replaced without soldering, etc. The battery can eventually die (a year or two) if you have the ring set up to activate your mechanical door bell and you don't have at least a 30 VA (volt amp) doorbell transformer. Once that battery dies, the unit may still work, but will do so intermittently.

Which model is this?
There is only 1 version of the Ring Door View Cam. That is the one that apartment dwellers can install. I've been keeping my eyes on it and was waiting for it to get to about $149 before getting one so $139.99 is a good deal since most retailers still have it at $199 plus taxes. I had $4.70 on my Rakuten account so I was able to grab it for $135.29 and no taxes.

Why would one get this model instead of the Ring Doorbell Pro?
Is it just different view?
Maybe for a back door?
Any input

This is helpful for residents who don't have an existing doorbell or live in an apartment where you can't install or doorbell models. This one replaces your current peephole on your door and is battery operated.
