Nopes.. sadly soldered to the board
You can upgrade the ram. You have one slot that's 4gb and the other 4gb is soldered to the board. The open slot takes a mac 16gb card. I just bought this computer and upgraded the ram last night

I got this laptop with the pen included on prime day. After popping in an extra 12Gb of RAM it runs beautifully.
Pros:
Good construction with a nice rubberized matte top and the hinges feel sturdy.
Sharp, clear screen.
Touchscreen functions well.
RAM is upgradable.
Fast (with extra RAM).
Backlit keyboard feels nice to type on (for me at least).
Works well in tablet mode.
Can use active stylus.
Cons
No USB 3 charging.
Only one spot for the hard drive.
The stylus can be a little finicky.
Battery life isnt fantastic.
Max brightness on screen is still dim compared to other laptops in this range.

In addition it can be used for light to mid gaming and works awesome in table mode for games like slay the spire and wargroove as well as digital board games.
How is it as a tablet? I had a 15.6" HP 360 and I felt it was too bulky with the keyboard to actively use it to write notes. Wondering if the smaller size and brand will make a difference.

Not bad. It's doable. Probably a little heavy to hold with one hand unless you hold it across your forearm instead of just holding it with your hand like a regular tablet. Also the aspect ratio is a little awkward in portrait mode. Very long. But if you need a laptop and want the added function of taking notes in tablet mode I'd say it would work but might take some getting used to. Just don't buy it if thats the first thing you want to use it for.

repped. can you tell us what battery life iis not fantastic means. say for generaly web browsing, you tube videos, wiith brightness at 75% or so? 5 hours, 7 hours?
I haven't done a ton of stress testing battery wise but between playing games like slay the spire, watching YouTube, and doing some Photoshop stuff I'm probably getting about 3-4 hours. But that's also with the brightness all the way up. So for just general stuff I'd say 5-6. Which isn't too bad, but I was hoping to get a little more under the use I put it through.

A lot of people raised concerns with the max brightness being 250 nits. Has it been an issue for you at all, what is your light setting like in the room for when you use the laptop?

I also got the I5 version, waiting for it to arrive.

Anyone know the performance difference btw this one and the I5 version?

Price is about the same.
16GB vs 8GB but can upgrade.

From quick googling, Ryen 5 3500U has GPU.
Wondering if I should return I5 and get this...
The CPU's should perform pretty similarly. The Intel chip has a higher boost clock speed but both have equal cores/threads. You'd have to upgrade the ram on the Ryzen if you get it for sure so it would have come out to the same price, if not a little bit more for the Ryzen overall. The only difference that would justify you to return that i5 and get this imo, is the igpu and that's only if you need a light gaming laptop. Otherwise, it's a lot of hassle.

This is a great deal! I was going to buy one at Microcenter open box for 494, they should match this as they have 10 in stock. The vega 8 IGPU is awesome for light gaming such as the RPGs that i play. Thanks for the heads up

I just got my i5-8265u version from the SD post a few days ago. I don't know how exact or close this ryzen version and that one are but I can comment on the build quality at least for my version. So far, I'm very happy with it. Sturdy body for my preference, the lid has this matte finish which is really nice. The hinges seem to be very sturdy as well and I feel like that should be expected since this laptop was made to support that tablet/tent formation and repeated folding. I think the inside part is plastic but it doesn't really bend that much when you press down on keys or other parts. The keyboard keys, I actually enjoy them personally. They have a nice touch and receptive feel when you press down for a chiclet keyboard. The screen looks pretty crisp as well although I'm not an expert on color accuracy for IPS panels. Compared to my desktop monitor VA panel, the colors are much more vibrant. Others have stated before and I can kind of see it now, but the screen brightness is pretty low. At max, if you were outside or in direct sun, I would find it fairly difficult to see clearly.

That's just assuming that these two laptops are the same in build quality and only differ in hardware specs. If they are different, then I guess you can just ignore this comment.
You got the better deal with i5 and 16gb. We missed that one by a few minutes
