35mm film is very high resolution much more than 1080p. Remember they used to show these movies on huge movie theater screens so the film negatives were designed for displaying very large pictures

That's only true if they remaster from the original film. They can always upsample the Blu-ray version and say it's 4K.

i always wondered if some of these older movies were shot in 4k or if it's just an up sell.

Depending on your definition of "older", most were shot on film. That's true until the late 90s, IIRC, when digital began being used more in filmmaking. If the conversion (and if necessary, restoration) is done well, one can yield amazing video images from some very old films.

Edited to add: It's not always done well, and the effects are variably dramatic when compared with, say, BluRay quality. But I'd say that overall it is NOT just an up sell.

thanks, I did some research and most sites say 35mm film is basically 4k as the maximum quality you can get out of it so yeah these are legit. thanks for the info

Yup. I am buying it again. For some reason, it went missing from my vudu library

Sounds like you should talk to Vudu customer service (if you haven't already) and try to get them to fix it.

Most are fake 4k but false advertising is accepted these days. That is for discs and streaming is compressed video and audio.... Get discs if want real 4k or 2k upscaled 4k but labeled 4k....

If these are old enough, check Disc2Digital options for $2 Blu-ray conversion . hdX is not UHD so paying $4.99 is just uggh ...sometimes!

*I paid $2 for Enter the Dragon, HDX, last week. Car Wash won't convert but Blazing Saddles & Cold Pursuit seems to work, for my next purchase.
