Amazon Echo (2nd Gen) Smart Speaker with Alexa 39.99 each if you buy 2 or more and get 15 or more kohl cash. I think this is the best deal I have ever seen.

I've also noticed that if they are in Stereo mode and you set an alarm it only goes off on one but when you tell it to turn off a lot of times the other speaker hears you and says there is no alarm set even though the alarm is going off on the other speaker, so annoying!

Currently using a 1st Gen from Woot ($29.99) and it's been pretty good. 2nd Gen adds an aux port but they both use a similar driver woofer/tweeter setup so I'm guessing sound quality isn't a vast improvement. Also I just prefer the rotating volume knob on the first gen haha.

Edit: Quote from the Verge's review [theverge.com] on the 2nd Gen:

Quote :
On the inside, Amazon has added Dolby sound processing in an effort to make the Echo's 2.5-inch subwoofer and 0.6-inch tweeter sound better. But in side-by-side testing, I didn't find the new Echo to sound any better than the prior model, and for listening to music, I actually preferred the first Echo's sound.

The new Echo's sound is sharper, with more treble than the first model. That's good for hearing Alexa speak back to you, or for cutting through the din of a running faucet if you're using the Echo in a kitchen. But for music, the sound is thin and flat, with even less bass than before. The old model had a softer sound with just a little bit more bass that's much more pleasant to listen to.

Hooked up two 3rd gen dots in stereo mode. Works great!
Just know that stereo mode only works for playing music, etc. Asking questions, response is mono on a single speaker.

This is a pretty smokin deal. Didn't need them, but couldn't say no.

If you try to pair them it says that you have to use two devices that are alike even though the devices are alike

So I currently have 2 3rd Gen Dots paired in stereo mode. Sound is good, but thin, especially for bass reproduction. I've been eyeing adding the Echo sub, but I've read that there is a response gap between where the sub cuts off and the Dots pick up. Can anyone offer firsthand experience for sound comparisons between a stereo pair of the 2nd Gen Echos vs the 3rd Gen Dots?

Logic tells me that the 2nd Gen Echos should sound better, but is it better to the point that it's noticeable and worth my time to resell the 2 Dots?

that does sound annoying!
1. change the name of one to "Amazon", "Computer", or "Echo", or
2. "Alexa, stop 'Kitchen'" or whatever you have the device named that is going off.

I had 30 in KC so I had to buy 3 to get free shipping. Damn you Kohl's
