I bought the AMD version of this laptop earlier this month with the Ryzen. Just got done replacing the display to IPS. Found a great refurb panel for $37. The procedure was easier than I thought. Took a lot of research to find a compatible display on panelook. It was a game changer.
Can on post some information on the IPS panel you purchased?

Im more curious to know if the ryzen 5 has comparable battery life to the i5. If that's the case the bump in thread count and the on chip ryzen 8 graphics make for an interesting choice. 81NC001AUS brings it up on Lenovo's website for under $400 with a code.

The microcenter version has a lower resolution screen and the ryzen 3 chipset. You would be better off going with the Staples version with the i5(mature drivers and better driver support) or the one sold through Lenovo's website with the ryzen 5 chipset (slightly lower single cpu performance but much better gaming performance for a non dedicated graphics solution......possibly improved performance later as driver updates come out).

This is a great deal. For me though, the TN display is a no-go at any price.
I agree. TN panels have bad viewing angles and colors reproduction. However, people have mentioned that you replace the screen on laptops pretty easily nowadays? I see a "Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E550 IPS Wide View New Replacement LCD Screen for Laptop LED Full HD Matte" on Amazon for 47 dollars so people might want to consider going that route.

People, if you want to switch to a better IPS screen, you can. For example, Amazon have "Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E550 IPS Wide View New Replacement LCD Screen for Laptop LED Full HD Matte" for $47. It's a 1080p screen which is a match for this laptop. You might want to look into that and just make sure that the screen cable wires of both are the same.

how to find replace screen, any website can provide the details?
I've only replaced 1 screen in my life. It was when my 3 year old broke the one on our Toshiba. I ordered 2 different screens from Amazon and neither worked properly despite having the right model # and stating they were for my pc, so I tried this site and it worked perfect. A little more expensive than amazon but it worked on the first go without issue. The replacement process on the Toshiba was fairly simple. Lots of vids out there that walk you thru.

"Lap top screen (dot) c0m" in case the link doesn't show.

Depends on your use case. It'll never be a decent gaming rig but would be a solid computer for school. If you have the right credit card you can also extend out the manufacturer's warranty by another year or two. Just don't spill any beer on it. Smilie
How to extend out the warranty by another two years?

In for one. I need to replace my old HP laptop from 2010 I use to watch youtube and browse the web on. I was waiting for a good $200ish laptop that had the 8GB memory and 256SSD without having to swap. i3 is all I need but this checked all the marks and the 1080p and i5 is icing on the cake to make up for the additional cost. Heck this may replace my i5 7th gen Lenovo laptop I am using now. TN panel doesn't concern me, I use my PC which has a IPS panel for gaming, etc anyways.
