I thought that you could get these without the .edu account because they were also meant for elementary and highschool students, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone know if this is compatible with active digital styluses, not just capacitive ones?

Also, is it IPS? I didn't see that listed on the site.

Finally, someone in the reviews mentioned that you can upgrade RAM and such, but the last time I looked at a display model the entire back panel was one piece held on with some weird screws. Can anyone confirm you can upgrade once you get the right screwdriver?

You're the OP. Shouldn't you know that? How are you getting the price $100 cheaper than the web site?

Also couldn't find anywhere on its specs or reviews about using a stylus/pen. Just curious as to what I could use

as stated in the OP it's through student deals, and no it's not my job to hold your hand.

try googling "best buy student deals sign up" see if you can register with your email address - I registered over a year ago the process might have changed since then.

In the questions section, several confirmed buyers say they use active digital styluses such as the Surface pen, but then a verified HP rep says that it only uses "dumb" styluses...
